Title: a wise pourer on this site...
Post by: floridagrimp on 11/23/12 14:26 UTC
said about 3 molds is about the limit for clamping 10 cavity carrot molds together. Having mixed results with more than that.

I use long, 600 lb Erwin (blue/silver) clamps...any insight to how many molds, how tight do u get them and where do you position the clamps   thanks

PS- also, is there a big advantage to heating molds on griddle?? I live in central Fl. so temp isn't as big a concern as it is for others.

I do not have an injector that can inject more than three of the 3.0 inch or 3.5 inch carrot molds so I am limited that way.  On the smaller molds, the weight and / or clumsiness becomes an issue for me.  I do clamp up four smaller molds together.  All hinge sides aligned and clamped first, then the non hinge sides.  I clamp four in one set of clamps and three in another ( all smaller capacity molds ) and injected all seven with one injector full.  That is as "frantic" as I go.

I pour at a pretty high temp....one mold w/ CC small injector at a time (all 8-12 cavity carrot)  I like to use 8 cup pyrex and just pour like a madman, but use 4 cup when doing new colors.

Some molds with small appendages long thin tails etc. need preheating. I have to preheat my ribbontail worm molds. Most of my molds can be injected ice cold in the dead of winter. I don't preheat unless I have to. The cooler the mold the sooner you can demold. I also try not to run my plastic any hotter than I need to.
