Hey guys, I'm having an issue with the DD Gill getting a dimple on one side. Plastic is CCM Regular 550 +/- 10 degrees. The mold is warmed, the injector is warmed, holding for about 5 seconds and keeping topped off. Any ideas on what I could do differently? John

I hope that is 350 degrees. You may need to inject cooler and / or hold light pressure longer. The bait body being 0.40 thick and a 1" X 2" oval is a fair bit of plastic.

Ha, Yep 350 degrees. I have done that 500 degree thing once and only once. It went right out the window, it was bad. Will hopefully never even get near that again. Ok I'll try both thanks, John

The hotter the plastic is and the larger the mass is...you will get "differential shrinkage" along the "walls" of the mold and the mass. That's why some parts warp in a mold.
in English: that big hunk of plastic is cooling slower than the skin...and as it cools and shrinks...it's gonna suck from somewhere! That cool skin is no match!
So...inject any large mass bait as cool as you possibly can (and still get the flow you need). I do the big swim shad at 320.

Shoot this mold much cooler. I have mostly used it with the Twinjector and the temps were about 310. And I just shoot and dont top off. I have shot hundreds of these already and It works for me. It really is not that much plastic when you have the mold. The head might be that thick but it tapers down pretty fast. Shoot way cooler and see how it goes. Frank

Frank - Jason - other DD Gill mold owners - The body tapers from the head to the tail? This is not apparent from the site pictures. Could someone post a pic of the bait in profile? This would help folks get a better concept of the bait. I know -- Just order a sample or two. But it may be a mold in my next order.

Frank, if you have the time, I would love to see some of your lams of this bait.
I already have pics in the gallery of four colors I have done. The taper is in the body and the tails are really thin just as the finger fins on top and bottom. Was going to cut these off but they add action to the bait that makes it look more life like. I dont usually just go all in on molds but this one just works for me and was more than I expected. Frank
