Title: plastisol..
Post by: floridagrimp on 12/03/12 20:34 UTC
talking w/ a rep from a plastics company today...says things that are banned in plastisol    we can't ship to Asia/Pacific rim, but they make palstics w/banned substances over there...and ship them to us.  Chinese are pretty smart, they own us as we pay .40 of every dollar to our debt and then they ship stuff to us that ban for themselves!! China owns more of our debt than any other nation.

https://www.google.com/search?sourceid=ie7&q=DOA+in+plastisol&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-Address&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSNF_enUS423

DOA wasn't banned in plastisol...I ws wrong, either in what I heard or how i communcated it!  I apologize to any this offended

I was informed (and wanted to report) that there had been substances banned in a plastisol I use, Calhouns (lol, i am afraid to list sustances b/c I may get them wrong)   I needed to say this.

I think maybe you misunderstood. DI – OCTYL ADIPATE (DOA) is manufactured in China and the primary source of the chemical. They have a tariff on the raw material (kind of pointless since you can buy it in country for a lot less than you could possibly sell it for).

It's commonly used in film (very thin plastics...not the picture taking kind), and is commonly used instead of phthalates in thin film used for packaging (primarily food) ...and I believe it's commonly used as the plasticizer for vinyl printing (like on t-shirts). We also use it in some of our thermoplastic elastomers as well as our thin film products at work.

I'll double check...but I don't remember this chemical as being banned and on our our export alert list (I rewrote it about a year ago with the Import/Export guy...but my memory is not what it used to be!).

Heck...you can ship just about anything to China!!

By the way...I believe the correct figure of the US debt that is owned by "China" is less than 8%...largely because they buy savings bonds, municipal bonds, etc...for the same reason many of us do...It's a "safe" investment, that pays a relatively good interest rate.

From what I read... of the $14.3 trillion U.S. debt 2011 figure) - $9.8 trillion in all - is owned by the American people and its government. Even Fox News (that bastion of high quality journalism  :o ) admits that China holds less than 8%.

we pay .40 of every dollar taken in to pay DEBT...thought majority was owned by China....not really exciting even if we "owe it to american people"  China is a major holder of our debt and growing every day.

and the man did tell me couple substances already banned in Cali...watch lawsuits under Obamanista regime multiply in the next 4 years like we've not seen heretofore.

again, DOA wasn't banned...as I said in first post, i was wrong

Andrew, you like those quality sources of news, like...I dunno..MSLSD, CNN??

as debt now is over 16 trillion (2 tril over these numbers)..say add another 1/2 to 1 tril more to Chins account

Criticism of China Owning U.S. Debt
To put China's ownership of U.S. debt in perspective, its holding of $1.2 trillion is even larger than the amount owned by American households. U.S. citizens hold only about $959 billion in U.S. debt, according to the Federal Reserve.

Other large foreign holders of U.S. debt include Japan, which owns $912 billion; the United Kingdom, which owns $347 billion; Brazil, which holds $211 billion; Taiwan, which holds $153 billion; and Hong Kong, which owns $122 billion.

I understand discussions about topics related to making baits, but as a general rule I make baits and fish to relax. There is a place for important topics like fiscal responsibility - this forum, and my boat, just isn't that place.

Here is a link explaining what is banned in California as well as other parts of the world:

http://www.chemsystems.com/about/cs/news/items/PERP%200708S4_Plasticizers.cfm (http://www.chemsystems.com/about/cs/news/items/PERP%200708S4_Plasticizers.cfm)

In general, what is banned are plasticizers containing phthalates.  Some of these are common in the fishing industry.  DOA does not contain phthalates - it is phthalate free.

Here is a link to Eastman who manufactures DOA.  You can find the MSDS on this page.

http://www.eastman.com/Products/Pages/ProductHome.aspx?Product=71001061&list=Chemicals (http://www.eastman.com/Products/Pages/ProductHome.aspx?Product=71001061&list=Chemicals)

I think you may have misunderstood what the sales rep was trying to explain to you, or maybe they weren't clear on what they were saying.

Please correct me if the links I provided are incorrect.

It's a little after 4:00 a.m. California time and i've already got a headache.  There is a time and place for everything and, in my very important opinion (to me anyhow) this forum is not the proper place for political discussion.  There are many other sites that would welcome such diatribes.  The election is over, America has spoken and, like it or not, Obama is still in office.  So, and i speak only for myself, either accept that or go somewhere else.

I think most are aware and talk about it on a regular basis.

The point is making baits and fishing is an escape. I rarely take my cell fishing, no way do I want to take politics with me.

As mentioned earlier, there's a time and place for everything.

Thanks for understanding.

I've had my feet on California soil twice: once in Death Valley as a tourist amd once in LA on a fllight lay-over. I swear we were the only people in Death Valley, but in LA I had a slice of Pizza at some fast food shop in the airport and I swear I got something close to cancer from it.

Death Valley is usually where people go after eating airport pizza.

I have cursed your theory Denny. Actually I went to Death Valley after hitting a penny machine in Pahrump, Nevada for a large sum. Odd that we stopped at a truck stop/ Terrible's casino there for breakfast. They offered a discount if we had a players card so I signed up, got a t-shirt and 10 bucks of free play credit. I ate breakfast for near nothing then put a buck of my own in a penny machine to activate the free play. Cashed out at $92.00 and nevere even got into my free play money. I still have that as a credit on the players card.

It would have been a bummer to croak in the valley with all that ill gotten change in my pocket.
