Title: Hot Pistol
Post by: BareKnuckleJigs on 12/17/12 09:02 UTC
This is a Spin on an Old Favorite, Smoke/Red.  This is also a Revision from the "Hot Pistol" recipe I posted in the "Recipe Ideas" Thread.

Out of all the Smoke/Flake variations out there, I used Smoke/Red more than any other Smoke-colored bait in the Salt, and usually Smoke was a Winter color...so I chose Smoke/Red for this batch.  I only shot the 4" Skinny and the Glider, as these two Baits will cover most of my "go-to" applications/presentations, for the time being.

The Jighead in the pics is the modified Do-It Erie Head 1/8 oz. (570/575) with a 4/0 Mustad 32831BLN hook...6mm Flat Red Eyes and a heavy coat of Clear Engine Spray Paint.  I haven't made any 1/8 oz. Erie's with 3/0's with Eyes, yet...the 4/0 hooks fit the 4" baits but the 3/0 hooks fit the 3" baits...I've used the 3/0's with 4" baits, but the 4/0's seem to be a better fit on a 4".  That straight-lead "color" with the Red Eye sure does look good totin' a Hot Pistol...

...Hot Pistol...
12 oz.s CCM Plastic "Hard"
12 Drops CCM Black NB (non-X2)
1 Dash LC Ultra Lumina Black Pearl Powder
1 Pinch CCM .040" Fire Red Flake
1 Smidgen CCM .015" Fire Red Flake

I only included this first pic to show the level and intensity of the amount of the Lumina Black Powder...

Here I thought you shot yourself in the foot, but lookie here what you've done. That's a nice color and one that I can see sitting atop a clearer belly color for those natural looking baits.

Good work there.

LOL!  Thank You Sir!  I was just thinking about this being the Top Color of a Laminate.  Maybe for the Belly...half as much Colorant, about 25%-30% Black Pearl, and a much lighter hit of .015" and .008" Red flake...

Try HOT PINK for a bottom color.

Gary, nice color!  I keep looking at that second overcast pic- Man, I love the mica type powders.  What if you tried the "Hot Pistol" on the back and just straight up clear plastisol with a smig or two of lumina black for the belly?  I may have to try that after bible study this morning.

"I keep looking at that second overcast pic"...

Those two baits are what catch my eye in this color. That carrot is downright awesome.

Ay Thank Yawl, Fella's!

I liked the way this color came out so much that I had to slightly revise my Avocado/Neon...made 2 batches of the Revised Avocado/Neon today, between doing some other things...I'll see about posting some pics tomorrow.  MAN it feels good makin' some good baits!!!

Thank You Sir!  I took some pics of the Avocado/Neon yesterday, but the sun was seriously bright, even the sky was bright, and I couldn't hardly get a "True Color" pic...they all look kind of pale and cloudy, but a few of the baits are a decent representative of the color.  The "Hot Pistol" baits are awesome in-hand...the density of the over-all Smoke is right on time for my tastes in a Smoke bait, with the combined Colorant and Lumina, because the Lumina Black does darken it a bit...with the fine Pearling of the Lumina, they're just nice to look at.  I'm certain they'll catch fish whenever Smoke is workin', but I've also got a feeling they'll catch fisherman, I just don't know which will bite more...  :D
