I have a question for the guys out there with businesses. Do any of you use quicken. I'm so invested in molds equipment so on that I doubt I'll turn a profit anytime soon but still want to be safe! Does anyone use quicken to track expenses/sales? If so how easy does it make it for you?

I`ve been using Quick Books Basic since 2002.Its my check book,every time I write a check,you must assign it to an account. You`ll have dozens of accounts,materials,molds,telephone,utilities,just to name a few. You can always go back and do reports to see where the money went. You can track your expenses with a click of the mouse.You can do all your billing,even file your taxes. Makes my accountants job very easy. I took a class when I got started,I also had someone install it on the computer for me. I run an Auto Body Repair shop,and write many checks,I just feed the blank checks into the printer,and click on check,one pops up. You start to fill it out,and with a few letters the name or account fills in before your done typing.With a click of the mouse,I can see what I spend on paint & materials,parts,heat & lights,it does everything.There is a learning curve,you`ll need someone to answer questions.Go for it.

That's what I'm interested in most. Tracking expenses going out/Money coming in and tax ease. I hear there's also a forum for quicken users simular to this for help! Thanks!

I've used Quick Books for 20 some years now. It does all my payroll, invoicing, estimates and billing. It will even keep track of each customer on what they buy and how they paid for it. Plus it even has a place for notes. It's some what of a pain as they make you upgrade from time to time as new operating systems come out. But that's with any program. Take your time and set it up right. It is very easy to use if you do that. I just print out reports and hand them to my accountant and they do the rest.

we have been using Quicken since 1995 and now use Quickbooks for our rental properties. I agree that QB is best for business applications, but if the business part is fairly minor, consider Quicken. It is easier (and cheaper) to use and is setup to track and budget household finances. I used Quicken for several years for the rental properties and it worked real well until we outgrew it.
You are smart to use a system like this that helps keep track of things.
