Anyone see the new lurecraft catalog.. check out the 5x942 mold, its the swim toad by CCM, 5x943 is the swim shad mold, and then 5x945 and 5x944 have parts of CCM molds attacked to others baits.

very, very similar to say the least.

I agree, but in this business if you have a good bait you will be copied. Doesn't make it right but I'm guilty of it myself.that's how I and many others start.I got tired of paying the money for the big yum beaver tails with limited colors so I made them myself . I guess a way you can look at it is it might let someone who can't afford an aluminium mold still enjoy our beloved pass time.
One thing the copiers don't have is folks like Jason that who is a bigger asset than even the molds they design. I do like lure craft alot, like CCM they helped made tackle making what it is today.

Might have something to do with the Zipper Goby ;) compare it to the Poor Boys Erie Darter.

Welcome to the forum Bob, have you been making you're own tackle long?
-
Big Time rip off. :-X
It is one thing to copy something for personal use. It is entirely another to take someone's design and make money with it.....
Just saying
-
MO QWACK summed it up pretty well, but you're right too BassDetective... It's a catch 22, slippery slope to tread. We just do what we can. Like my Dad used to say..."it's a rough 'ol world out there".
-
BD, who are saying is the ripoff...CC or LC?? Frog or Goby, lol??
-
Shoot... There's so many frog and goby imitations out there NOW that it'll make you dizzy.
-
I'm pretty sure that the Poor Boys Erie Darter is made with that Lure Craft mold. Look at their website, there's a link to LC right on the home page.
RTV molds are good in that they let you get started with lure making for relatively little money. If you really like it, you will probably move on to aluminum sooner or later. That's how I started, and I'm sure that's pretty common. Maybe if someone gets one of those knockoffs they will eventually get the real version and make some better baits.
-
All you can do is take it as a compliment.
A good design and mold are just part of the equation, as proven by many of you, the person making the bait and fishing it are even more important.

I thought Poor Boy and Lurecraft were owned by the same people. Kind of like Caney Creek Molds and Do-it.
-
Yeah, now that I think about it, you're right, they are one and the same.
-
Yep looks like a dead set copy to me !
Take a leaf from zooms book CEASE AND DESIST

The Zipper Goby on this site is a copy of the Poor Boys Erie Darter (Lure Craft is owned by the Straley's, who owned Poor Boys prior to buying Lure Craft), I'm saying that that might have something to do with it.

Thanks BOB. Welcome. Where you from.

:D Awesome bait. Jason is the man.
Too bad others want to profit from his hard work.

Okay, I see what you're saying. Maybe, but I think that's a pretty good deal for someone who would rather use a quality injection mold over an RTV hand pour.

* Guess it's who had the bait on the market first, one was the knockee..the other the knocker. If it's not patented...it's fair game i guess. Not the highest road, but legal.

*FYI...Erie Darter has a video out in 2009, so I guess that settles who was first.
Guess Creme or Mann's can say everyone knocked them off. Take a 7.5 or 10 inch curlytail worm..many make it, not sure who originally created it! If those early innovaters would have patented those baits..my my!!! Perhaps they did...and patents ran out.
