Very nice work Drew. I've often wanted to try my hand at the hard baits but I don't have enough time for the things I do now... Do you use Createx on your hard baits?

Thanks guys, Justin it better look good it's yours lol

Yea bud I use Createx on anything I can lol, thinking about doing some ghost flames on my white abu combo haha.

Hopefully if I can find the perfect clamshells I will be selling these to more than just close friends/family. Thinking about doing a crank, spinnerbait, swim jig and a bag of plastics all airbrushed to match and sell it as a combo on ebay just to see what I can get out of it.

If you do that combo idea in the bluegill... I'm a customer!

The spinnerbait and swim jig would be in the ultra minnow, thinking 1/2oz spinnerbait w/ 5/0 hook then 1/4oz jig w 4/0 hook both matching paint/skirts the willow on the spinnerbait would be painted to match then the plastics would be 6 3.5 swim shads painted to match w/chart tails.

Cant begin to think what I would charge for something like that. That is a ton of work.

My cranks I sell for $8
Spinnerbaits are $10 (the swivels are almost $1/ea)
Jig would be $6
Never priced/sold painted plastics.

It would be expensive.

Crankbait looks like an excellent bait...with right trebles, I bet it's a wicked fish producer.

Very nice Blue Gill Drew... if it were a little bigger I'd think about filleting it if I were you. lol

Thanks for sharing you're skills, I've been wanting to try my hand at the airbrushing thing for a while too but like Mr. Jester said, I barely have time for what I do now... Pretty inspirational work, that.

Thanks,

Jerry

The only thing that would look better on that bait is teeth marks. That's realistic, I like it.
Title: Gizzard Shad?
Post by: TheDreamer on 02/15/13 08:52 UTC
Thanks everyone, your starting to give my already large ego a boost.  :P

Here is a diver I did for a forum member, also did this pattern in the 2.5 that the bluegill is in.

These are awesome! Every time a new picture of painted lures including the soft plastics gets added, I have to try harder not to spend more money and it is getting VERY hard to do so LOL

Would you give some details on how your airbrush your soft plastic baits?

In particular...
Paint: What works...what doesn't! (I know a bunch that don't!)
How you clean your airbrush for this paint?
What airbrush do you recommend?
I assume you have to dip the bait in clear to keep the paint on (?)
Do you use templates ...and if so ...where do you get them?

How about an airbrush section on the forum??? Airbrushing plastic baits and Do-t jigs   Seems to me that airbrushing soft plastic (and do-it jigs) is different than hard plastic/balsa baits...but I know nothing on the subject!

Title: Hey Jerry,
Post by: TheDreamer on 02/15/13 10:18 UTC
That is a great idea, having a painters corner section would be awesome. A place where we could talk about liquid and powder paint/applications and so on, gonna tag Jerry in the title and see how he feels.

Drew

PS: Andy, 90% of what I do is the cheapest easiest things I could find/do. If the section opens up I will post pics/how-to's for anyone wanting to try my methods. I am no "pro" by any means, haven't been doing it long enough to get out of the greenhorn stage LOL :P

Great looking stuff Drew!  I also have too many hobbies I don't have time for and can't afford, so I won't get into airbrushing.

Well if a painting page opens up, we need to get Rick Garcia to post some tutorials... the stuff he posts on facebook is amazing! I think he lurks here a bit too.  https://www.facebook.com/RebornTC?fref=ts (https://www.facebook.com/RebornTC?fref=ts)

x2 on rick being a great guy.

I have one of his baits coming my way too.

I have a airbrush but drew and rick are head and shoulders above me.

Same here, I have a airbrush but Im bush league compared to these guys. However it is fun to catch fish on one of your own paint jobs. I know how to use createx, but had trouble with plastic paint. It dries so fast that it dries in your airbrush before you can spray it all out! Would love to find the proper way tomix it with a reducer.

This is 1 of 4 cranks that were recently finished for 2 of our forum members, all 4 are done in different bluegill patterns.
