Title: Early blending block tries and finally bought some eyes.
Post by: gstott on 02/24/13 21:34 UTC
I've had my reservations about putting eyes on the baits.  I wasn't quite sure how much it matters to the fish, but I have to say they look a lot better to me.  It think it was worth the time.  I guess I'll find out what the fish think this spring  :)

I also finally got a blending block and two identical injectors.  I started with baby bass because that is a predominant forage source in the small reservoirs I fish.

I still don't know how you guys manage to do three colors.  That sounds like a lot of juggling of injectors and pouring pans.  Maybe when it warms up and I don't have to worry about things hardening so fast it will come more easily.  I hope so.

Thanks!  I'm thinking about making a brown trout next.  I mostly fly fish for trout, but there are some small, brushy streams around my house with some big browns that are hard to get a fly to.  I think a Wittle Wutzit will do the trick.

Thanks a ton guys!  All your comments mean a lot.  I love string glitter, it just seems to add a little different look to the baits.  If anyone wants the recipe, I don't mind sharing.  I'm not a very good record taker, but I'll try to remember it.

Top:
4oz medium plastic
2 or 3? drops LC Green Pumpkin
1or2? drop Bears Kudzu
1 smidge of .035 Sea Green glitter
1 smidge of .015 Sea Green glitter
1 smidge of .035 Black glitter
1 smidge of Black string glitter
1/2 smidge of Moss Green glitter

Bottom:
4oz medium plastic
about 2 match heads of LC pearl powder
1 drop LC White

That should be pretty close.  All the glitters are LC too.

For going all in you hit the mark they are very nice indeed. I used to think that the eyes caught the fisherman not the fish but reality says that if fish have eyes then a predator will be looking for eyes as well.

Thanks gone2long.  I'm excited to give them a try this spring.  With the high visibility of the waters I fish, that little detail may very well trick a few more fish into biting.

I got the string glitter from Lure Craft.  I think they call it whisker glitter there.
