Title: Big Striper
Post by: basskat on 03/22/13 20:21 UTC
We don't have a lot of these and it's rare to catch one. This thing hit a five inch swimbait like a freight train!

Those stripers ( and hybrids ) can hit like a ton of bricks when they want the bait.  Real nice fish.
Cold hands and tight drags plus a good striper can be the recipe for a lost rod and reel.

I used to catch big stripers (25lbs and up) in mid tenn. on big topwater redfins, fished slow. Kinda like a helicopter crashing when they hit on top. Pretty good to eat when water is real cold.

A very nice looking specimen indeed... and hitting a small bait?  I'm guessing he's pretty hungry.  If he can fill his gut with a few 5" bait, I'm sure he would be happy.

Nice work,

Jerry

Nice one!  I hope to catch one that big in about 2 weeks when the upper Chesapeake Bay fills up with stripers.  I am making some 7 inch Wutz Its to target them.
