Title: Umbrella or Alabama Rig
Post by: SBuck88 on 05/09/13 10:52 UTC
What's a good mold for the Alabama or Umbrella rig?  Been thinking about trying it out.

do it makes a lead mold and if I remember correctly fishingskirts.com has one that you can use resin in I have no experience but would like to here how you make out, I was thinking of pulling the trigger on one but haven't had the chance to compare the two yet.

There are lots of people out there, that no longer want a lead version of the A-rig.  I know down south they like the resin based ones or non lead versions.  I have the lead mold from fishingskirts.com and it works great.  I Do-it alos produces one.  I haven't yet bought that one.  Are you going to be selling these or make them for personal use?

Sorry, I was thinking about the plastics part of it.  What size swim-baits are good for this rig?  I'll buy a rig and make my own swim-baits.

I think I read somewhere on here that the 3.5" and 4.5" swim shads work well, as do the new swim baits do it/ccm came out with

I've done well with the Swim Shads in both sizes.

For bass ...the 3.5" has done the best. That 4.5" bait is a pretty big bait! (the Northern Pike love it)

Most are rigged with four 4.5 swim-baits and a 5.5 swim-bait in the middle. Some of the guys use the 3.5 and a 4.5 in the middle. Hollow swim-baits work best. You have to be careful or the thing will weigh a ton! This bait can be awesome, it works best in colder water. We throw it on 65 lb braid. The A Rig bite is over here.

I make some of mine with JB Water Weld. Tie your wires together and work the water weld tightly around it. Roughly form it into the shape you want. Let it cure and use your Dremil tool to finish shaping it. Have never had one break.

for the calibama rig out here I like to pour either the smokin shad 3.75 in or the 4.5 swim shad.  3.75 smoking shad is my favorite..  I like to make it in a medium plastic so I can slow wind and still get good tail kick..

Could you explain the cal rig? I like the Yum Flash Mob Jr. rig with the spinners on it. Also easy to throw.

In california we are only allowed to have three hook... So a typical alabama rig has 5 places for for hooks, so we use 3 jigs and 2 spinnerbait blades
