Title: hybred
Post by: ctom on 05/12/13 15:39 UTC
Here's a purple hybred. The first thing you'll say is that this isn't purple but it is.

(http://i574.photobucket.com/albums/ss184/crappietomtackle/cfd332ce-5067-4be8-9329-31e528aec095_zps084c9a13.jpg) (http://s574.photobucket.com/user/crappietomtackle/media/cfd332ce-5067-4be8-9329-31e528aec095_zps084c9a13.jpg.html)

The tail is a re-melt of some X2 chartreuse with a drop of X2 green chartreuse added to tone it down a little. The 1.75" Small Fry was shot a few times to collect tails.

The body color is amazing in the hand. to four ounces of CCM soft I added about 15 drops of stabilizer, some light purple glitter and some purple hi lites. I used a tooth pick dipped once 3/8" in each of Midnight Blue, Florida Grape and Purple, all CCM X2 colors. I stirred each dip until the color was off the tooth pick. The tails got laid in the cavities amd the plastic got a cooking up to 360 degrees and injected and pressure held for a 5 count. Instant crappie fodder for tomorrow.

In the hand this color is a nice purple. On the sun-side of the picture its almost a blue. Unreal. Uncanny clear colors. I did up three different baits, same color/tail scheme, so I think I'm ready for fish.

Tom you fish alot of purple?

Purple/chartreuse tail or the bluegill/chartreuse tail....always on a rod in the boat. No other way to fly.

I carry up to 6 rods when I get serious. Either a purple or junebug with a chartreuse tail is on two of the rods as a rule, same with the bluegill/chartreuse. The only difference in the rods is that one rod of each color will be rigged with a float, the other two rods carrying these colors will not have a float and will be rigged with a 1/16 ounce head and maybe a slightly larger, more aggressive plastic.

With the colder water up here yet I rigged the three rods I took with floats and these two colors along with a 1/32 head in a pink/white tail. Nothing on the pink today. Both baits done up in the color shown here got fish. Everything fit today to be a good day on the water but nothing but small fish would hit. I marked a ton of large crappies but they had tight chops for sure. I suspect that later in the day when we get some surface heat on the water the larger fish will move to bays and feed, probably well into the dark.

My hi lite today was that I crept up on a nice doe laying up in the woods while slowly moving the boat along a deep water shoreline snooping for suspended, submerged wood. I went past the doe while casting and then a bit further down the shore I turned the boat and went back over some marks to try a different approach and the deer stood. She had afterbirth hanging out of her and a pair of fawns laid there curled up. man, those baes were tiny. Ears up and alert already but still as wet as wet can get. Unreal.

Seen a few that way. Thats why when we fish now we take cameras. Sometimes you see stuff no other people see. Including a bigfoot sighting lol

I carry nothing but what I can fish with. No cameras, no phones. I tell people I am going to be fishing between this and that hours, don't die because I won't know until I get home. Fishing time for me is quiet time. People worrying about all these electronics in a boat get on my nerves. If anyone wants in the boat with me, I have two rules: no alcohol or smokes, and no electronics.

I have to carry a phone with me;  Dr., & wife's orders.  But, they know I am fishing; not talking on the phone.  Come "dark thirty" if I am not home I might get a "check on" call.  I almost always call when the boat is on the trailer and we finish locking everything down for the trip home.  I also always let someone know where I am putting in before I leave home; and If I move to another ramp I get in touch.

I hear ya Paul. I fish very early morning, seldom pat 11 am and Ma always knows where I fish and which landing I am using.  I might fish longer if I am in someone else's boat and then of course I fish by their boat rules and most of these have both cameras and cell/smart phones. The lake nearest home where I have been spending all my time so far this spring lies in a deep valley and cell phones are mute down there. We carry verison and can get reception anywhere on earth except off that lake. Even law enforcement has to use their radioswhile patrolling that lake.

I've always wondered how so little colorant could add any noticeable color to 4 oz of plastic, so I tried it after reading Tom's post this morning.  Amazing.  I followed your instructions to a "T" and it worked perfectly.  The X2 is dangerously potent...it doesn't take much.  The new hi-lites are going to end up costing me a lot of money...might have to use them in everything I pour.  I poured four dozen baits in nothing flat and I'll be darned if they don't look a lot like Tom's.

I use hi lite a bunch. The purple in this recipe comes from CCM's new line but what I have found is that they too are potent components. I was doing a transparent fluorescent orange using the X2 and added just a wee bit too much gold hi lite to the mix and I ended up with a pretty wild almost pearl color. As a rule, I scale back a lot on the CCM hi lite and in direct comparison with the other hi lite products I have I think they are the best value right now.

I'll repeat this again that hi lites can be worked into jig paints too. I stick with CCM hi lites for the plastic because they do such a good job using much less and use the other products I find in the paint.

Had to go over the bait swap post at least 5-6 times before posting it knowing once it was up it was there for good.

I can't explain what happened to the "edit" button but I've a feeling Denny had something to do with it.  I've got my eye on him...   and I've also got the Admin. taking a look into it.  We'll have something figured out soon.

What did you do with the edit button Denny??   dang it!... >:(

You did not see it snow on Saturday? For shame, I did. Only in Minnesota though...snow showers on Saturday then 97 on Tuesday. 60 miles to the west they had 104. Talk about going from the pan to the fire.

Oh, and while we're sort of talking about it, I see my "correction button" has been returned. Thanks to whomever used it and forgot to return it.

As it relates to the weather in our part of the country Tom...  I was visiting my Saintly Mother this weekend for Mothers Day and she informed me that it wasn't really May yet... it was only February 82nd and Spring was just around the corner.

That all made sense today as it was 90 degrees. ;)

I use firefox as my browser and it will automatically underline any misspelled words, right click and it will give a list to choose from. Google chrome does the same.
