I'm thinking of buying the Do-it brush jig mold 1/4 3/8 1/2 oz model. Can anyone tell me if I'll be able to use a 3/0 hook in the 1/2 oz cavity? I fish smallmouth a lot and would like a heavy cover 1/2oz jig with a 3/0 hook.---Tim.

I'm fairly certain you can. I'll check when I get home, but I'm almost positive I've done this before.

Do it molds are made to take at least one size smaller and bigger then they say.
Sometimes if you need bigger you have to cut the mold some. And if you need to go smaller. Get a hot glue stick and melt just a little to take up the gap to hold the hook.

Groovy! Sounds like this mold will work for me. The 1/2 oz cavity calls for a 4/0, 3/0 for the 1/4 & 3/8. Thanks for the info fellas.----Tim.

Well...I just dropped $150 at Barlows to get started making my own brush jigs. I'll be ordering a grass jig mold next pay. Then maybe a football jig mold. Then maybe...... Oh brother, here we go again. This could get outta hand, like the plastic hobby did, and the guitar hobby, and the....Well, you get the point.---Tim.

Stay away from tying flies, Tim. I mean far away...way far away. Ask any of the fly guys.

Oh yes - Denny - Amen. I only tie crappy & bream jigs; and schooling fish flies. But; I have more jigs and flies than I will ever live long enough to use; and still tie more every week. My "table" sets in front of my den chair and my vice and "supplies" just to my right.

I hear ya brother!!! Thanks for the warning. I'm safe with the fly tying though. No point in making something your far too clumsy and uncoordinated to use. Now that I'm getting into jig making, I'll start tying bucktail jigs again at some point I'm sure. The only thing I've used my vice for the last couple years is tying wire weedguards on my wacky hooks. ---Tim.
