I have not had this before. Can this be caused by overheating???

More than likely overheating is the cause, John.  After the initial heat to 350 degrees, you can get good good results at a much lower temperature...320 - 330.  You might also consider using heat stabilizer.

Denny's answer is right on the money. The only thing I have to add is, you can inject many molds even cooler than he suggested. I add my sprues back in to remelt as my pot starts getting low. I shoot baits that don't have long thin tails or lots of small appendages as low as 290 with perfect results. The cooler you run your plastic, the longer it will last in the pot without the color changing.---Tim.
