I'm a newbie and I've been reading as much as I can on the Forum. I found where it said to add the glitter last because of the heat factor but if you reheat the plastic with the glitter in there does it effect it adversely?
-
Cooking virgin liguid plastisol the 1st time...it has to reach (best to exceed, at least by a few degrees, to be safe) 350F for the PVC to go through its change. Then cool a little and add flake. Cool to where the plastic can be stirred without whipping much air in, add flake and blend. Remelts do not have to reach 350, they only need to be heated so they're workable. Plastic only has to be cooked properly the 1st time (starting from virgin liquid). Flake is the most heat-sensitive component, which is why I've omitted flake from alot of my recipes.

Thank You Sir.

I agree with BareKnuckleJigs, I too am just starting out and I have a few plastics that has some glitter in them that I still use, but mainly I stay away from the glitter, its nice but I find it can get in the way a lot of times.

One thing to remember with glitter is it will change the color of your bait. Example if you want a bright red but needs a heavy black or blue flake it will dark'n the red most of the time not by much but enough to aggravate me. So get around this by... I don't put any glitter in the bait but add it to clear and just dip the bait in clear glitter. That way you color is true, you use less glitter, you can do several different baits with the same glitter and all baits look sweet cleared

The bait I'm trying to mimic is this Bass assasin which has the glitter inside.

How do you clear coat a bait, I did a search but didn't come up with anything.
-
when I clear coat I just heat plastic to temp and dip the bait in it hope this helps you
-
How do you hold the bait to dip it?
-
'carefully' - to dip something that small - you will probably want to use forceps and hold it by the end of the tail.
That shouldnt be a hard color to match - chartruese with the smallest silver/silver hologram glitter they offer - probably just a 'smidge' to 4 oz.
now I'll have to go do that in the small wutz-it.

Well hell, you a crappie fisherman why didn't you say so :D all these bass guys around here we need more sane folks like us. Silver glitter your golden on the reheat just go slowly because that fine silver heats up faster than most. Only make enough plastic for a few pours because chartreuse well change easy so add stabilizer . A little tip add some pearl not much about two match heads per 4 ounces and it will pop that bait. Good luck

OR.....add about 1 match-head of gold hi lite to your 4 ounces of chartreuse. And if you really want to twist your mind, add the match-head in purple hi lite.

Thanks for your help, yeah I don't fish for those green trout! With all the stuff I'm learning looks like I already need to do another order :-))))

Do you just heat some plastisol and dip them in that?

Yes - look/search for posts on this board (and probably on youtube) about sealing 'eyes' onto the frogs and shad baits - its going to be that same process.
For that bait - if you want to match that color (given the size) - I think you're better off just matching the glitter in and not worrying so much about it - i've yet to have any issues with the glitter other than not using enough or using too much - i've not had any issues with heating.
(so sayeth the guy that started a month ago).

Thanks for all the replies and info ya'll have given me.
-
so - I will take a pic tomorrow - but I used
4oz CCM regular
8 drops of X2 Chartruese (this is what I remember, honestly I melted a chunk of chartruese from earlier)
1/8 tsp of silver hologram .15
it looked dead on what you are trying to make.
PM me your address and I'll drop a couple of baby wutz-it in the mail for comparison.

The tip of the year dont listen to CTOM ! DO WHAT CTOM SAYS!!!!! He is to bait making what the sword was to the stone, what fraggle was to the rock, what kermit was to the frog. What I am to women! You know all around awesome :D
-
Mo...you crack me up. All you have to do is to look at your picture to know you're lying through your teeth. Either that, or the women you're talking about really aren't.
