I just finished tying a bunch of hair jigs and I decided to post a picture and description, these are super effective without a trailer and even without flash and I discovered it by accident as a member here posted it on a different web site and I decided to try it. The jig was originally posted on the fly fish Ohio site and they call it "Joes rootbeer jig", it was called that as they used rootbeer paint and buck tail but I changed it for my waters and it has been a killer. These are 1/8oz weedless ball jigs painted with pro-tec copperhead powder paint with orange buck tail tied in sparse and then the brown portion of a natural buck tail tied in over top but a little shorter than the orange and then finished off with a pheasant rump feather tied in as a collar. You can't see it on the picture but the pheasant tail has this teal hue to it and in the water it actually gives off the slightest little flash and maybe that is why it works so good but so far every time I've used it in 40 degree water it has got bit, a very good all around cold water hair jig.

Very nice! With all these beautiful hair jigs your posting had me wondering what type of water you fish? We have some smallie water in southern Missouri . Its mostly small rivers but they love hair slow bounced across the bottom. I wish it wasn't such a long drive to fish em

Yo Smalljaw,
You ever tie any hair jigs out of the Do-it Poison tail jig? I have the 1/8 ounce mold and was thinking about giving it a test run.

Thanks guys!! Mo Quack, I fish the Susquehanna and Juniata river for smallies, they get to 5lbs and some over 6lb have been taken but the hair jig is the best thing to use in the winter when the water dips into the 30s and 40s. School Master, Yes, I have tied a lot of hair with the poison tail, here is a picture, you can get serious flair and I use these with a 4" straight tail worm as a trailer in the middle of summer when the bite gets tough. The first picture is a bucktail jig, this is the one I use with the worm trailer, the next is a rabbit hair leech done with the same poison tail jig in 1/8oz.

Yep the bottom one is sick just plain sick! I would LOVE to fish the Susquehanna !!! I have fished the New River (Wv side) many times and just fell in love with it! Its a magical place everything about it the sound, smell, views and big bronze backs! I hear the Susquehanna is similar and I've watched all of Jeff's videos on it.
Keep them ties going brother they are awesome

Smallie My Boy!
Those are real nice. That's exactly what I was talking about. Don't throw a lot of hair jigs, but hey what's wrong with a little side project for this winter. Thanks!
