I thought this video was interesting. It got me thinking about how HD Additive might play into making a multi-density bait that would fall in a similar manner. Have any of you played with that type of thing?

Actually, I do I inject my sticks 1.5-2 inches with HD then inject reg. Plastic works great.I did it for fishing grass and lilies. It makes it glide head first into the shady under growth of the pads, and you can still wacky hook it and get the wobble on the up jig. It didn't take 3 years to perfect ::) the big boys could learn a lot if they listened to someone else besides a guy with stickers on his boat. We might not fish every day but a lot of us think about lure design 24 hours a day ;D

We have for the last few years taken a Sweet Beaver type bait and hook it up backwards from what you normally would and put a lead peg in the opposite or the nose where you would normally enter the hook. When you pull it toward you and give it slack it well swim away from you. Kind of like the flying lures if you remember those. Works great under docks. Gives the fish a different look. Never thought about building it into the plastic till now. Can't even believe I told that secret. But it is a good one.

Seems to me we had some posts (or maybe it was PM's) where the front carrot was molded in HD and the back was molded in regular...so that the tail would stand up (float) and the front would sink...but even more importantly...be more durable.
It would work the same was as the "back slide"...but then...any bait can work this way if you put a small split shot against the hook eye!
There was also some discussions about how much HD to add to get the same sink rate as a Senko (Bill posted some data) and what if you just wanted a slow fall on the Freedom Fry. I made some Freedom Fries in 3 "sink rates"...floating....HD (2 tablespoons per 4oz) and "slow fall" with only 1 tablespoon per 4 oz.
But...one of the reasons I got into making my own wacky worms is because I want them to FLOAT when the bass throws them and I go net them (with a long handle aquarium net) and re-use. I use the 2 tablespoons/4oz not only for the fall rate...but more importantly to me...because it makes them significantly more durable (there are multiple threads discussing this) and I can get up to a dozen bass on one Freedom Fry!
So...I have since gone to only floating and sinking/durable and haven't made many more "slow falls" because they were not super durable, did not float and I was getting only 1 or 2 bass per bait before they got thrown off the hook. I really try not to leave discarded or thrown plastics in the water if possible because of (and we discussed this a couple months ago) fish and other critters could eat them and cause health issues.

Some how all I can hear is banjo music . I didn't by any banjo lures or Rowland Marten's helicopter lures . Think I'll prolly let those ahem! backslide as well . LOL OK now don't beat me up I'm just an ole fuddy duddy .

On my two color carrots I often inject a softer tail section for more action and a harder head for longer bait life.

Your welcome. My partner doesn't read this forum so I think I'm ok. LOL. If you use the Beaver it kind of looks like a squid when you pull it and then folds up and swims away. It works well on lily pads, docks and under cut banks. Like others have said this type of fishing is nothing new. Just they make it seem like it is. Never listen to a pro. He's one big commercial. The flying lure came out maybe 20 years ago ? There was the gitzet glider for tubes. A guy from Indiana ( Terry McWilliam ? ) come out a few years back with the stupid tube. All were baits to move in odd directions. When the fish are on fire the same old bait that everyone else is using will work. But when the fishing is tough you need to do something different to cause the strike. That's all this is. Doing something different. We that make our own baits do that every day.

I dont see that much of an advantage of a bait backsliding. Even in the video it is not goin that far back compared to deapth.
Fat Ikas do this and can work well though. The Do-it 4" skirted chub grub works well for this if you remove the twin tails. HD added of course.

I will twin inject. Use HD on one side of bait or salt the other side of the bait is regular. guys who use my sticks like that seem to really like the fall and action. I was drinking beer last year when I cam up with that. 3 years hahahahaha I think they are pulling our leg. I guess you have to tell people what ever they want to hear.

I've played with using a firmer plastic at the head of a bait. Don't need the HD for anything so I haven't tried it.

I like the HD it works great in my stick baits, never gave it a thought to use it in my carrots but that is a great idea.

The reason the "backup" baits came out in the first place was to sell to guys who couldn't cast back under docks etc. This was suppose to get the lure back under just by casting to the front of the pier. Never heard of a pro fishing the banjo lure unless he was getting paid to do so!

I'm thinking. I could back up a beaver farther under a floating dock. I'm hoping anyway. Never hurts to try

My idea behind posting this was not because I thought the bait was cool at all. As a matter of fact if you ever find one of these baits in my tackle bag I'll eat your shorts... I'm only interested in who has tried using HD to get the same effect and "do it does or do it don't" work.
I've a feeling that there are some applications out there for this concept. Even if you're a pro at skipping a bait, imagine that bait sliding a little further into, or under, the cover... Maybe there's something we could do to make the HD additive better or develop something entirely different. I believe the concept itself holds some merit, just trying to figure out how we might be able to apply it.

In my opionion this has nothing to do with how far you can skip or cast under something. As it does have to do with a bait falling in a different way or different speed. Let's face it unless your fishing 10 feet or more water a gliding type lure isn't going to go far. Most docks or undercut banks aren't that deep. But a slow rate of fall or a side to side fall may give a bass another look. When bass fish I fish in two ways. Reaction, Take a heavy weight and burn it past them, make them eat it or not. Or put it in front of them in a matter of which they can't help to eat.
