What places do you guys buy your baits??
-
Dakota lakes tackle
Predator baits
-
Those were the two I was going with.thanks!!
-
Also best place to get hooks?
-
Captain Hooks on the internet for hooks, also Jannsnetcraft has some good looking unpainted cranks. I haven't tried them yet but do have some on order.
-
Best hook prices I have found are:
lurepartsonline.com
LureCraft.com
There are tons of places to get tour blanks. The "best" is a mix of quality, service, shipping etc. All of these factor into how many blanks you are trying to buy, if you only need a few and have no problem spending $1.75-$2.50/blank the names in this thread will suit you perfectly.
If you are looking for a bunch of product with great quality and low prices, you will have to order from overseas.

Lurecraft. On hooks. X2.
-
Now see you learn something everyday! I live about one hours drive from Lurecraft and have never considered them for hooks! Going to have to look in to that. :o
-
I did a price comparison recently. I checked Jann's, Lurecraft, Lure Parts Online, Barlow's, Captain Hook's, Do-It and maybe a couple others. I only checked the prices on one hook...Mustad Ultra Point #32746...90 degree Aberdeen jig hook...100 hooks. Hands down, the company with the best price was.......Lurecraft. I used to buy all my hooks from Captain Hooks, but I was surprised how expensive they were compared to the others.
I'm a little apprehensive about ordering from China. I'd appreciate any input re China if you care to share it.

Lure craft had always treated me right. Plus it's in Indiana.
-
What hooks would be the best for a crank bait 1.5 sr or the 2.5 sr
-
If I had a place an hour away and could save on shipping I'd pay a bit more for my hooks. but right now Capt Hooks gets me the best price (Not like I need to order hooks). I have old stock Mustads and Eagle Claws and a bunch of Matzuo's that I've tested the eyes on.
I make a spreadsheet and do an order for the same items from 5-6 places then add the shipping cost. Might have a few items 45 cents more but if you can save over all from the shipping you take the lowest cost.
All the Craft Fur I just bought I got from ebay and 5 of the colors are the old Targus brand, shipping on the whole order was free, and the prices of the craft fur was 25 -45 cents cheaper.

The only problem with buying instate is the gas to go get it, the state sales tax, and all the other stuff that gets in your basket at checkout! :D

Bass kid. I use short shank 4 on my 1.5 and short shank 2 on my 2.5.
-
I agree with Justin on hook sizes.
-
One more thing split rings what size oval and what size circle for the 1.5 and 2.5
-
Heavy duty ones. Twos. Or 1.5. Which is like 6mm or 5mm
-
Thank you all for the help
-
Every crank that leaves my shop runs a 1.5 oval @ 4.8mm from center line to line and KVD short shank trebles. Running #6 on the 1.5 SR and like bodied baits, then #4 on 2.5 etc. and #2 on larger baits. Each hook is attached with an HD Stainless Steel 5mm split ring.

X2 on dakotalakestackle.com
Good baits and if you email him he will answer all your questions. Really good guy. I asked him tons of questions when I started painting crank baits.
I use #6 on the 1.5 and #4 on the 2.5.
