Title: Tribute to Billy Westmorland Video
Post by: Partycrasher on 03/06/14 10:48 UTC
I have a new video up on my blog at www.thelureofthefish.blo gspot.com.  For those of you that don't know the name Billy Westmorland, he is a legend in the world of catching giant Smallmouth bass.  In re-reading his book"Them Ol' Brown Fish" this winter, I realized that the three main lures that he used to make these incredible catches (three of the top 25 largest Smallies ever recorded including two 10 pounders) were all easily made using Do-It molds.  Again, the video is a supplement to the article in Midwest Outdoors Magazine, but I covered a lot of the same information in the video if you don't have access to that magazine.

For any of you that fish Smallmouth bass I hope you find this interesting.  This book is from the late 1970's but I have seen them for loan in libraries and for sale on e-bay.

Thank you,

Marc

He also caught his share of Kentucky spotted bass.  We used to see him; and Charlie Brewer; a fair bit on Smith Lake ( Alabama ) as well as Wilson Lake.  We did not fish The top end of Pickwick much at all, but they fished it a fair bit.  Both of those gentlemen could "think like a fish".

I really miss him.  He was one of the most entertaining fishing personalities on TV. Great angler. Anybody that fishes smallmouth should read his book. Thank you for the post. Good stuff.

Not only do I have his book!!!!!!  But I always taped his fishing show, it's on VHS tape.  I actually got to meet him at a Sportsman Show in Buffalo, NY.

I used to eat breakfast with Billy Westmoreland at Scotties Restaurant in Celina TN when I would fish with my Dad during Easter break. Buddy Banks would be there too... I fished with Bobby Westmoreland on the Obey River. Been to Billys Moms house to meet the family.

Good times in my life.  I was 18-20 years old....
