Title: Good numbers of striped bass on the Chesapeake
Post by: Jeff Little on 05/05/14 21:31 UTC
The mid 40 inch range stripers I caught back in February have been elusive since then.  I had a good trip today in terms of numbers though.  Most of them came on a 1 oz Style 9 (less snaggy in the rip rap) or Shad Head with a 7 inch sluggo hand pour.  I'm trying thinner profiles to see if the hookup percentages are any better.  They were, and I think that I have a good smaller profile set up to put in my kids hands this weekend so they can get numbers.  There's a nice 18 to 20 inch year class out there, so they should get the hang of jigging this summer with some expendable baits.

I lOve me some Stripers.  Fight hard and eat great...and they're good looking fish.  And I'll always agree with thinner, more slender baits.  Highly underrated and underestimated...which isn't really a bad thing, IMO.

Nice fish!!!!!!!  Those are the good eating size!!! although catching the big ones are a blast.  Haven't had a chance to fish them in a long!!!!!!!!!!!! time.
