Title: How do you lubricate your injector?
Post by: knifemaker3 on 08/25/11 13:38 UTC
I usually use a light coating of worm oil to lubricate my injectors after cleaning them.  Figured if you use worm oil on the baits after you bag them to keep them from sticking to each other, it won't cause any ill effects before or during the injection process.  I usually just lube them before my first pour or if it starts to get sticky and not inject well in between pours.

Does anyone else lubricate your injector and if so what do you use?

My injectors seem to work better with a little lubrication....may just be a mental thing for me or something...

I have thought about doing that but have been hesitant.  Thanks for asking the question.  I am going to give it a try and I will report back.

Worm Oil, which is normally a plasticizer, is a good choice.  It will help clean and lubricate at the same time.  It's what I use as well.

I use a small drop or 2 of my scents, it's oil based. Sure a little veggie oil will work too.  Hmm,I wonder,.. not stick cooking spray???

LOL.... This thread could go the wrong way quick!!!!!!!!!  ;D ;D

I never lubricate mine. It is smooth as the day I bought it without anything. I could see using the Pam garlic spray though, just to add some flavor...

Have you ever cleaned them?

I guess that is as much what I am talking about as much as lubricating them.

1. I took my injector apart, it had bits of plastic stuck inside the injector wall.
2. I sprayed carb cleaner inside the cylinder.**DO NOT SPRAY CARB CLEANER ON THE O'RINGS**
3. Then used my air compressor and blew out the small pieces of plastic stuck to the inside wall.
4. Afterwards I put a blue shop rag into the injector and pushed it through several times removing the remainder of the gunk.
5. I removed the o'rings, had some plastic underneath those too. Used an old soft bristle tooth brush on all the threaded parts and the o'ring seats.
6. Spray carb cleaner on a rag and wipe down all pieces.
7. Once the carb cleaner had evaporated and all pieces were clean a dry, reassemble injector.
8. My injector has a vent hole on the plunger end. Pushed plunger all the way forward.
9. Spray "CRC Heavy Duty Silicone" with provide straw into the injector. Can also be used on o'rings. It's heat resistant to 400 degrees.
10. Injector now works like it did the day I bought it, maybe better.
