It's a sad day at my house today. We had to put our 11 year old lab, Libby, down...cancer. She's the one who ate my shoe a while back. I'd gladly give her the other shoe now if it would bring her back.

I hear you Denny!
Not a day goes by that I don't think about my bud I lost a couple years back. I don't expect to ever bond with another dog the way I did with him.
-
Sorry to hear that Denny... :(

Condolences, Denny.

Always a sad day same here a few months back in a few days your thoughts will be of the good times.
-
It is not easy. Our family went through that two years ago with our Lab. I feel for you.
-
Sorry to hear buddy!! It's been a year and a half since I had to put my lab down and I still miss her like crazy. Just think about all the good times and they'll help you get through.

I'm sorry to hear that Denny.
I have a yellow lab and had a growth removed from her side. The vet sent it off to LSU and it came back positive for cancer. Right now she runs around like everything is fine, but I dread the day, especially for my daughter. To top it off, she is on siezure medication and incontinence meds as well. I tend to think the flea and tick control chemicals we dose them with contributes to it.

Sorry to hear that Denny. :( lost both of ours in the last 3 years, both had cancer but died from other ailments, mainly old age.
Flea/tick controls such as Frontline could certainly be a contributing reason for cancer in pets. Lawn chemicals (2-4-D based broadleaf weed killers for sure!) contribute as well. If you guys have dogs, you won't have a perfect lawn; ditch the pesticides.

Sorry for your loss. I know where you are coming from. I lost my lab 5 years ago...and I'm still sad about it.
-
Sorry Denny. No words can ease the pain. Keep your head up and think of the good times

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, companion, and family member. If people were more like dogs; the world would be a much much nicer place.
-
It's really encouraging when friends come together in times like this, it's kinda like circling the wagons. Thanks for all the kind words.

I'm so sorry to hear that Denny, I get my cats the one year rabbies vaccine and I go back every year just because the 5 year stuff can cause cancer and since I have it I don't want my pets to have it.
-
I feel for you as I have put down several and it certainly doesn't get any easier with "experience". After our first dog had to be put down, I never wanted another... but the wife has convinced me to reconsider (more than once).

i have had labs all my life.. putting down ur best bud is 1 of the hardest things you will do.. each dog has a different personality and its hard to get one like ur favorite.
hope it goes better for you.
i FEEL UR PAIN!!!!!!!!

Losing a pet is never easy. I think its because you can't explain to them that they are getting sick and you are making the decision to end their pain/discomfort. BUT I think they know just by how you look them in the eyes. The eyes are the gateway to the soul. They say it all. The loss of a pet is a difficult void to fill. You will learn although they are gone they never actually "leave". Dogs help mold families together. They time stamp moments in your life. Where you were in your life when you got Libby…..When your kids started school…. The day you brought him into your home…..Where you were working….When you bought a new home…..When they misbehaved…..When he ate your shoe.....When he just laid there sleeping on the floor… Or just stared at you patiently waiting and hoping you would share some of your dinner with him. Libby had unconditional love for you and your family and so did you guys for him otherwise you would have not experienced all those wonderful memories together. He was only in part of your life, but you were his whole life. He will always be with you guys. Hang in there Denny

Sad to hear the news Denny. Funny thing is - I was just going to scold my lab pup Silver for chewing up a couple of hats (true story - one of them a Do-It Cap) Now I think I'll just hug him as I say a prayer for you and your family!
-
Tommy, that crazy pup of yours should consider himself the luckiest dog this side of the Mississippi river for winding up in a home setting like he's got. That dog flat out has it made, and so do you... The thing is, one of you knows that, and the other one chews on hats sometimes. ;)
