Just powder paint = and once you cure it you don't need a top coat.

When you powder paint the blades; you must be painting both sides? I have a bunch of raw blades is why I ask and was told if I didn't top coat them; they would rust.

I don't paint blades for other people anymore simply because it is going to chip no matter what. I do use powder and I have done just one side and I've done both sides and there are some things to consider. If you have plain brass blades, you have to make sure they aren't lacquer coated, if they are then soak overnight in mineral spirits and then wipe, rinse and dry before painting. If you are going to do one side you need to put a top coat on both sides or the unpainted side will tarnish or rust if using raw steel blades. I normally use Devcon 2-Ton epoxy for all my top coat needs but it adds too much weight to a spinner blade so I like to use the Component Systems Seal Coat, you can use it on powder or create. Before you paint I recommend roughing the blade with fine grit sand paper, I like 3M 400 grit wet/dry, a few passes will be enough to provide a surface the paint will adhere to without making it so rough that the paint will end up with a texture.

Gary

Didn't know until your last post that they were raw blades.  Yes you'd have to coat both sides - if your using a sprayer I'd use a clear whatever you want on the back and then do your paint on the front or do both the same .  Most of my blades are not raw so I'm brush tapping powder on mine.

SJ is the sprayer for blades!!!

Fatman, I use powder but I spray the powder with a Badger model 260 hobby sand blaster, it is discontinued but it is still being sold as the powder paint airbrush, they are the same thing. The blades you use wouldn't be worth the trouble of spraying because you aren't using anything over a #1 or #2. Once you hit a size #3 or 3.5 it becomes difficult to tap powder on them because you will notice where areas where there is more paint and areas that have less, spraying makes it easy for a uniform coat.

Good to know - never tried using raw blades before.  They're cheap enough in bulk at Hagens for nickle, brass and copper.
