Title: Camera choices
Post by: Denny Welch on 07/12/14 13:17 UTC
Hey guys,

I am seriously considering buying a new camera that would enable me to do quality photographs and quality videos. I'm a little unsure which one to get. I've been looking at the GoPro Hero Three Black Edition.  Do any of you have advice on what to look for, or what to stay away from?  Thanks in advance.

I have a buddy that has three... I can't say anything for the stills it may take, but I can say the video is premium.

I don't think the Go Pro would take very good still pics because the lens is a wide angle (aka "fish eye"). But the video I've seen from them is really good. With all the mounting options, for action video it is the way to go.

I buddy of mine mounted his to the back running light post on his boat. Then lined it up so that it would take video of him fishing in the front of the boat.

Cant go wrong with a Nikon D3200.  Or get you a SpyPoint XL   they are better than GoPo and cost less.

I have a GoPro Hero 3+ silver edition. The video is excellent, it does take good stills as well but that's likely not what people buy it for.

@Danny look at the Liquid Image EGO. I have two and the video on my website home page is filmed using them. The price for them are lovely also.

The problem with the high end cameras is they are to bulky. I like the compact ones and for most of them if you stick to the higher end you get a great picture. The other problem with them is they are made for sissies. If you drop it get it wet or even damp they are done. And then I found Olympus. They make a water and shock proof camera. I can even swim under water and take pictures with this thing and have had no issues with it at all. For me I need a tough camera because when I'm on vacation I'm outside and I don't want to worry about the camera. The model I have is a TG-810 and is a 14 megapixel.
