Title: Newbie airbrush art....
Post by: jkwildhunting on 10/12/14 18:39 UTC
I been painting jigs with powder paint for a while now and all year I tried to convince myself to buy an airbrush. Finally took advantage of Hobby Lobby 40% off deal and bought a brush. It had sat in the shop until last week and I decided to try to learn it a little.

Here are some schemes I came up with quick as I only had like 5 different colors of paint to mess with.

It is a lot of fun to paint with and am learning each day more things about it. Now I get to learn which epoxy I want to go with.

Super nice paint job! Keep in touch with what you find out about the top coat. I'm going to paint up some blades later this winter and top coat with Dick Nite. A lot of guys are using GTS concreter sealer for top coat on plugs, I don't know if that would work on blades or not. (This will be my first time for painting blades also)

Good job Joe. Those look really nice. I may have to send you some blade baits to paint up for me .... IF I ever get the time to pour some.

I really like the ones with gold on one side and "Perch" Paint on the other!!!  Blades with a color on one side and a metalic finish on the other always seem to catch more fish for us!

Nice work!

Spinner blades used on inline "Mepps-type" spinners used in Lake Superior for casting Salmon and Lake Trout do better with flash on the cupped side and the color on the front.

Thanks for all the replies and input!

I just have had a wild hair recently wanting to paint the back of blades vs front. Don't know why but I would like to test it out. Way I see it if a fish (mainly target walleye) is chasing a harness pulled thru the water they may not see the front of the blade which is usually painted so why not keep the front plain (hammered gold or silver) then paint the scheme on back.

Got a bunch of new paints in mail yesterday really like the looks of the createx wicked colors. I tried some UV createx on these blades but it took some of the brightness away from the paint.

Really enjoy doing this and hope to get better and learn different methods over time!
