I'm not very happy right now.... I spent a ton of time painting some custom detailed baits. I brushed on the seal coat and put on my turner... All of my paint crackled even though it was heat set... >:( Ruined 12 baits I was counting on keeping for myself. It's too thick to airbrush... Not sure how many light coats it takes to finish a bait when thinned enough to airbrush...

Cs sealer ?

Really that's not good!! I have had great success with it. I dip and let it hang. I guess the it's about 60-65 degrees in my shop. Did they crack when you thinned it? I hate to hear it screwed up. I know concrete sealer cracks when you heat it. Try dipping and just let hang
-
What paint?
-
My basement is 68-70* and on a turner. I had a thinner coat than dipping as I brushed a thin coat on them. It did the same thing my water base concrete sealer did... No heat... I wish I only did a couple baits, But I did 12 of them and now they are all no good. >:(
-
Man that weird! I hate that for you!! Your stuff is so pretty in a manly fish catching way :D I wonder what the heck happened? I use createx paint
-
I always heat set the paint and wait 2-3 days before I clear coat. I just dipped 4 baits and have zero cracks so far. I think you will really like the stuff if we can figure out why it cracked on you
-
Could you post a picture? I've heard of paint wrinkling under a top coat, but not cracking.
-

You cant "Dip" jointed baits unless you want them one piece... :'(

. Awww the truck is to dip and let them drip. Once the drip is done take the airbrush turn it up a touch and blow air to clean the joints

Sounds like you may have flashed the surface of your paint but it was still uncured (soft) underneath you have to be careful with waterbed paints when "heat setting" as you can apply to much heat to the surface giving the false impression that the paint is cured.
-
I have had the paint wrinkle on me before what a great feeling. Just go sing it from the mountain. I had even predipped befor using mcu. Got away from the the mcu fast and I don't even look back. Good luck when it comes to a good topcoat.

Trust me, after the paint was heat set.... They sat for 7 days in 30% humidity at 70* before the clear was applied... The paint was as dry and it was going to get. >:(
-
I have had this happen with the CS sealer you have pictured. Only cracked on 1 bait; but that was 1 too many (sits on shelf collecting dust). >:(
I'm sure, as you have stated the paint was set.
-
rat what do you use?
-
I'm back to devcon 2 ton - 30 minutes....i also turn them.
its at the local hardware store 5 minutes away; what can I say its easy to get when "oh @#$% I'm out" happens.

I just don't like d2. I think it robs the cranks of action. But it sure does shine.
I have had good luck with concert sealer. But I'm the only one here who has.

Mo was saying last night that he thought all that shine you talk about comes from inside your eyeballs after working in a closed room with the mud sealer...he said something about fumes and pseudo-mentality. Has that got anything to do with your good fortune per chance? lol
-
Mo says a lot. Most of it is just nonsense and the rest I can't understand.

Sorry to hear of the trouble with clear coat. You spend so much time make it look just perfect and the last step kicks in the - - - - - . Has anyone tried clear cure goo before for the top coat?
-
Right now I'm using Solarez and I like it. It's UV cured. I dip my plugs in it (inside my barn) let it drip off the plug for about 30 seconds, walk outside and turn it for 3 or 4 minutes and it's ready to hang up to finish drying. (Outside meaning sunlight, some folks use a UV nail lamp) I also have a sample can of Direct Colors Satin Finish Concrete Sealer that a lot of guys like, But I haven't got to use it yet.
-
Gary Is the solarez. Thin?
-
It's not bad. Thicker than Dick Nite, but not as thick as Devon.
-
I have some of this coming to test... http://www.tamcopaint.com/hiclonclthca.html
And if I like it, I will be ordering the Matte finish. http://www.tamcopaint.com/mahiclonclth.html

I will be curious on your findings
-
Ooooh interesting can't wait to see how thin it is keppong us posted
-
Is it 2 part?
-
It reads as it is two parts. Bad thing about that is waste. Unless you are doing 100 cranks at once. You'll have to mix up so much. It's like auto clears. Work great no pot life.
-
There are methods that reduce waste to almost none.
-
Man, that site offers a ton of tech talk and they certainly can steer people to the product for the best fit on an individual basis. Just a bit spendy but man, do they cover some bases that other places seem to take for granted.

Tom, I hear it's true... sad deal really all ears and one eye. He has a charming personality and a face that would make Hellen Keller laugh. But really good dude :D

Years of painting automotive parts taught me one thing that leads to cracking of clearcoat.. Usually too thick of a coating or wrong grade of catalyst for the temperature. Having said that, I read the post and remembered the video below
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu75tIiTHEw
I am still trying to figure out what polyester resin he is talking about. All the resins I have used require a catalyst (MEK) and have a limited pot life after mixing. Yet watching the video he has a big vat and dips and closes the lid ready for the next round.

He is most likely using propionate which is a plastic melted in Acetone.
The acetone evaporates leaving you with a plastic coated lure. I have not personally used it but some guys swear by the stuff.
