Title: Why aren't my baits fully injecting?
Post by: Lithium Soft Baits on 12/25/14 03:17 UTC
Sometimes when I inject a bait, there will be spots in my injection mold that won't have plastic. For example, the tips of my craw claws sometimes have air, or won't full up at all. It seems like I have enough plastic in my injector, because the pressure of the injection grows, and I easily have enough plastic to top the mold off. And I always make sure there is no air in my injector. Thanks for the help!

Most likley one of three things.
1. The mold is cold
2. the plastic is not hot enough
3. The mold needs more vents

All three are fairly easy to correct. If number three is the issue be very careful not to vent too much.

basskat got this one right on. It's most likely one of the first two issues. Definitely try fixing those before trying to add extra vents to a mold.

Basskat is right. Most likely cold plastic and mold. If your injector has plastic left.
Try hearing the molds up some.

You could have air bubbles. Try before you inject to hold the injected nose up and purge the air out. Also try when you inject to hold pressure for a ten count so the plastic gets pushed all the way to the back. Each mold has a learning curve to it.

Basskat's suggestions are good ones to look at and Lamar caps it up pretty good with the learning curve comment. I'll add that you may need to slow down or speed up an injection and this might change as repeated shot are made and the mold gets hot.

Lamar also mentions maybe having air in the injector....you'll know if you do because the rod will feel spongy and will rebound if you take the pressure off when you inject.

On those claws I'd slow down the injection just a little using a hotter plastic and pre-heating the mold with a couple shots of junk plastic might help too.

I'm with Tom on the speed issue... most of the molds I had trouble with bubbles in was because I was shooting it too fast.  I have found that shooting a bit slower cured every one of these problem molds.  You may or may not have heat your plastic a little bit more; I had to bump my heat because I tend to shoot cooler for color preservation.

Found the answer. It's to hold pressure for 10 seconds. Baits come out perfect 9/10 times. Thanks for all the help!
