Title: Pseudo-Tube Jig
Post by: smalljaw on 12/28/14 13:58 UTC
Here are a couple of jigs I tied up for my next trip, I call them pseudo tubes or mimic tubes. I saw fly tiers making these years ago and then I saw a guy over on Jig Craft make them and so I decided to make some of my own to try. These are a combination of a silicone bass jig, a hair jig, and a crappie jig and they work very well, primarily in cold water when a regular soft plastic tube jig is a little much, these have a more slender profile and it makes a difference. They are simple 1/8oz ball head jigs with a 1/0 sickle hook, the one on the left is Junebug color and I tied purple marabou and Junebug slicicone with a little UV flash for the tail and finished it off with a purple chenille body. The one on the right is watermelon red flake with light olive bucktail and watermelon red flake silicone with green and rainbow pearl flash tied in for the tail and then finished off with a rootbeer flash chenille body. I also put a video up on youtube on how to tie these in case anyone wants to give them a shot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWPwWnXPoEw&list=UU0uuaARiHSow_5aDIhW8q-w

I really enjoy your videos! I wonder how the chenille body would work if covered in Softex? Would really look like a tube, but you'd have to rotate it until the softex dried.
