What with tax returns coming in sometime soon, I'm definitely gonna be getting a few new toys to play with. One of the molds I want to get is a mold to shoot baits for crappies, but I cannot decide on one to save my life. What would be the best choice?

I like the mayfly and 1.5" thump grub myself.
-
1.5" Thump Grub hands down.
-
Yes, 1.5 Thump grub. I just got one and thinking about getting one or two more. I know I'm GOING TO USE A LOT OF THOSE BAITS!

If you are going to be limited in your expenditures, I would recommend looking for baits with versatility; it's the best way to get the most (styles of) baits per dollar. To me the mayfly is the clear winner as it is easily modified for three different looks all from the same mold... you get a spider looking front half, a minnow looking back half (if you rotate it 90 degrees), and the whole bait as a big juicy morsel. (I haven't fished the whole bait as of yet, but I have done well on both halves through the ice.)
The thumper fry is also fairly versatile, as you can pinch off the end of the tail to make it more of a pin style if the thump is too aggressive.

So the 2.5" Mo Magic don't get no love any more ?? :'(

The only reason I'm not looking at the thump grub series is because I've been kinda working on a design for something similar and making my own mold so I want to see how they turn out first. And Jerry I've actually been considering that one very strongly. Ever fished it personally? If so did it produce well? It certainly looks like it would.

The 2.5 mo is a nice little bait too but I have not fished it yet so I can not review it. My go to baits for crappie are the 1.5" thump grub and the mayfly. The white crappie here in central VA love the mayfly in a watermelon blue.

I'd really like to pick up the 2" thumper swim fry. And the thump grub looks great too. 2.5" MO Magic is my newest and I can't wait to fish it.
1.75" croaker is good. 1.75" carrot is pretty good.
2.25" twister tail is my go to, I need to pick up some 2.5" Kchubs to compare it to one of these days.

I rarely crappie fish but when I do I usually go with a twister grub or a little crappie tube.

I don't do a lot of crappie fishing but during the prototype mold stages of the 2.5" Mo Magic I fished it a few times. I couldn't keep the crappie and blue gill off it. They were traveling a long way (mostly crappies) and fighting over who was gonna be the next to smash it. I had a blast.

My two crappie baits are the 1 Mo Magic I'm a little bias on that :P and the 2.5 fry I crappie fish 99.9 percent of the time. The mayfly is a very close 3rd not because the fish love mayFlys here but because it makes an awesome tube! I have the thump and about 15 other styles of crappie baits that collect dust just because those 3 baits fit every situation.
-
Depends on where you live and what size bait works best. I'm in the south and would be looking at 2.5" - 3" baits. I have both the 2.5" and 3" Mo Magics and love them. Fixing to pull the trigger on the 2.5" Carrot and 2.5" Thump Grub.

Bass in the pond I fish love it!!!!!!!!! I've had threats from people fishing around me to throw me in as they weren't catching and I have this jig and grub under a bobber and I'm catching fish. I love tying jigs with all kinds of materials but I'm really liking it!!!!!
-
Hey mo... If you want to sell the thump I can clean the dust off it and put it to use... ????
-
Well, probably gonna have to bite that little 2.5" bullet!! I don't fish for crappies a whole lot but I do enjoy it when I do, but I tend to find a lot of uses for the smaller crappie baits. Plus I do catch a lot of bluegill and warmouths for bait.
