Title: Finally made the move....
Post by: ctom on 04/28/15 18:34 UTC
....from the house back to the garage with the laboratory. Let the creating begin.

Actually I'll be shooting 1000 chartreuse 1.5" Thump-Its for tail stock. Man it would be nice to see a "tail only" mold that shot 20-30 tails at a pop for this bait....eh, honchos? But now the mess will be in the garage where I have music.

I'd like to see a 10 or 20 cavity tail mold myself. It would make two color thumpers a lot quicker since I don't keep them in stock like smart people... lol

The small Thump-It is my most requested bait. Unfortunately for me the chartreuse tail on other colors reigns supreme. Its just easier when I haven't got anything to do to shoot a couple cups of plastic for tail stock. I cut the bodies off between the button and sprue runner for space savings during storage, then trim each piece just before putting them back in the mold for adding the second color. The stored pieces will exude oil and is why I re-trim them, it leaves a clean butt end to weld to without having that oil to weaken the joint. I can squeak about 120 baits from a cup of plastic with enough left over to add to the remnants of a couple other cups to get another 40-50 baits. All of the remaining chartreuse trim from the baits gets bagged and re-melted somewhere down the road, I use a lot of chartreuse as accent coloring, but seldom do I make anything that is stand alone chartreuse...I just never fish a solid bait in that color.

So the 1.5 inch Thump-it is your number one seller for crappie ? What are they doing, putting it on a small jig head and swimming it ?

Pretty much that Lamar. I like to run mine on a 1/32 head under a float to control the depth  at this time of year, but today it didn't matter how you got the bait out and the fish hit. The Thumper Fry today was a solid bait too.

Ok thanks. Not much of a crappie fisherman but was thinking about taking my grandkids on a trip next weekend.
