Title: Jig Molds for Salt Water.
Post by: Adon Leon on 06/19/15 03:44 UTC
Hello,
I catch fishes in the Mediterranean Sea. I am looking for a Salt Water Jig Heads for Silicone Softbaits ( Worms, Tubes, Grubs etc. ):
1) Sz: 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 ½
2) With Eyes ( Jigs with Eyes, Style H Jig or Ultra Minnow Jig )
3) Collar: Barb or Ring & Barb ( Maybe Screw-Lock would be better for Silicone? )
I realy like the Ultra Minnow Jig in Sz: 3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, 1, 1 ½, but it is not suitable for fishing in salt water. Can it be adapted for fishing in salt water?
Sorry for a very long letter and terrible translation into English.
Sincerely…

There would be no reason you couldn't fish salt water with it. Welcome to the forum. It would be interesting if you could post a few picture of baits you make to fish there. I'm planning on hiking that area next June in Greece. I'll be on some of the islands and looking forward to see how they fish.

You can use that mold but may have to make slight modification to take saltwater hooks.

Hello Lamar,
Thank you for your answer, but I still suspect that the hook 32786 in Ultra Minnow Jig not suitable for fishing in salt water. It is a pity because everything else (shape and sizes ), I really like. Maybe I can change the hook for saltwater?
With regard to fishing in Greece, it is best to talk with Greek fishermen. I live in Israel. We have one Mediterranean Sea, but in Greece it is very deep, cliffs, rocks and a lot of fishes, and we have in Israel, the sea is very shallow, sand, coastal reefs and fish is much less than in Greece. Although sometimes come across very large specimens. I do not have a boat and I catch from the shore. At a distance of 70m - 100m from the beach, just a 3m - 5m of depth.

I've been using the Mustad 32786 with the Ultra Minnow Jig in saltwater without a problem. I just remove the rubber grub and rinse in freshwater after each use.

Hook have be be submerged in salt water 24/7 for them to be affected by the salt corrosion.
I use all Mustad hooks the same guys on the Mainland uses. I rinse all my stuff off with freshwater overtime or dip as the case is sometimes.

Most of the time the fish will tear the jury up before the hook has a chance to even wear the coating off.
