Title: My 1st crankbait
Post by: jkwildhunting on 07/27/15 21:31 UTC
I have messed around with airbrush for 1-2 years now and Never gave it an honest try. First brush was good starter I thought, but Never could get good a solid spray. So I  switched to different brush and am having fun!

I am FAR from being good but over time I think I will learn which colors to shoot first and what type of paint to use to get certain affects.

The beauty of this is that you create colors unique to you. They'll catch fish and when you're the only one un-hooking fish caught using one of your own colors people will get a bit green.

This is for anyone really....

What is the epoxy that is favored by you guys? I have a few tubes of devcon 2t mudhole sent me 5min epoxy by accident and I didn't catch it till a month after my order as I ordered 30min .

Also uv.  Maybe I am suckered into this but is there a good uv powder I can add?

Thanks

I use Devcon 2 Ton ...and make sure it says CLEAR on the container. I just started painting this winter and I'm amazed at the outcome after following the steps in some videos.  I have  ZERO artistic ability... And they turned out great. The Devcon is easy to use and has been really durable for me.

WWW.dakotalakestackle.co m has lots of info and his book is perfect for beginners! Check out his videos on YouTube.

Honestly I don't wanna come across as that guy but..... Don't use epoxy or any other junk!!! The only clear to use is CS coating!!! I will save you 100's of dollars and countless time. CS you just dip drip and fish! I let my paint cure for a day then dip and let it cure for a day then fish. With any paint make sure you are heat setting on every layer of the bait.
Epoxy works but is way to thick and will affect the action of the bait but works in a pinch. Devcon 2 ton 30 minute is what I've used but it chips, to thick and you have to rotate during dry'n. I trolled a crank for a compined 15 hours with CS with zero hook rash! The stuff is unreal!!

I agree with mo. Cs sealer is good stuff.  Two costs will hold up great.  Dries very thin. And I believe the thinner the better too.

Do you need to use a rod/lure turner?

I use Solazar, it dries by UV activation. I dip my plug inside the barn, then go outside while turning the lure in my hand. After about two minutes I put it on a lure turner for a half hour and then hang it up by the nose of the plug. Works very well.
