I whipped up a couple of these "Bluegill Blades" for a trip to northern WI and did very well on Bass and a Pike. I had four Pike over 30". One was while I was on a remote no-named lake in a float tube. That was a blast. They like to try to get free by diving... INTO YOUR LEGS!!!
The water was warm up there this year and everything was deep. These blades fit in perfect. The weight is 5/8th ounce on this one. The single treble worked well. I never missed a thing. The bait was about 2 3/4" long so everything completely ate it. No Tail nippers.
I've noticed over the past couple years that small bluegills have become a forage base in some of these northern WI lakes. This worked out perfect.

You must of been using a leader so the pike won't bite off? How heavy of a leader/ line?
-
Yes, 0.013 single strand with a duo lock snap on one end, small swivel on the other. I make them about 8" long.
I was using 12# line on the baitcaster but in the belly boat I had 8# on a medium spinning rod.

Very cool! Chuck that in the water and catch anything that swims.
-
VERY good idea! How did you trim the tail to shape?

Great blade. It's a lot of fun to make something to fit your needs and have it work. 8)

As always you sir are the blade master!

Thank you guys.
The blade is cut from a sheet of brass with a jig saw. I use a file to clean it all up. Bottom bouncer mold for the various sizes of belly weights I use for the custom blades.

Wow! Now that's a custom bait. Thanks for sharing!

Very nice! Great idea! How long is the blade?

EXTREMELY innovative... another tip of the hat!

Those guys are pretty cool Marc. On our local lake sunfish of about an inch are forage for the crappies during the winter season. Its not uncommon to have a half-dozen crappies in a bucket with water and when you get home find a mess of small sunnies that have been puked out.

Thank you
This blade is exactly 3" long.
