Title: Fattest Fish
Post by: BassDetective on 11/11/11 12:36 UTC
This has got to be the fattest bass I have ever personally witness.  He only went 5 lbs but he was short.  The food chain is alive and well at Clearlake.  His mouth was really small too which leads me to believe he is a young fish that is gorging himself.  I got him on a lipless crankbait in 14 ft of water.  The day was clear but blustery - which made it difficult to fish soft plastics - even a jig.  This time of year at Clearlake you have to cover water because the weeds have all but died and the water clarity temp keep the fish in the 10+ depth range during daylight hours.  I usually go to a lipless crankbait when I don't have targets to fish and I need to cover water.  The pictures don't do it justice in terms of viewing its girth - it was nice to see such a healthy (obese) fish.

Awesome fish.  I would love to see her in 5 years at this pace.  Definitely well on her way to becoming a SOW!
