Title: Todays outing
Post by: Lamar on 10/21/15 17:23 UTC
Took a little time off today and went fishing. In the fall I like to crank the end of the trees with a square bill crank bait. Today all went well. A few years ago I had Drew make me up a few square bills and I took one of the gold ones and went to town. Caught six with this bad boy being the biggest.

Favorite time of year.  Been a ridicules late summer, early fall here in Iowa.  Near 70 degrees again today.  Very mild temps and no humidity for the last few months.  River walleye are usually on fire by now, but appear to be a few weeks behind.

Good going Lamar.

That's a dandy fish. It looks like you still haven't gotten to the fall's color peak yet. The wind here has just about cleaned the treed off now. And it is dry here too. Friday they say we'll get wet. We need the moisture. I have had the hose running on our birch clump since ten this morning and the water hasn't run past the base of the clump. Tomorrow my Magnolia gets the water.

Nice fish though Lamar. Those mid-week fishing days just don't come often enough.

I think we are finally at our peak. Picture doesn't show it but we're there. After this I dropped the boat off to get it winterized and put away for the winter. A little sooner then I like but in three weeks I go in for a hip replacement and I'm trying to get things ready for that. But sure was nice to get out one last time. The wife just sat in the boat and took picture. You guys down south miss the best part of the year. A five plus bass as my last fish of the season is as good as it gets. Life is good !

Nice fish, Lamar.  Sorry to hear about the hip replacement, but I'm sure you'll feel a whole lot better once it's done.  I'll even say some good words for you.

Thanks.  I'm so ready for this. Been fighting it for about fives years now and it's time. I'm still in pretty good shape. Rode 2000 miles on my bicycle this summer. It's a weird thing, I can ride 30 miles and not hurt to bad ( use to do more 50's and 60's ) but then get off the bike and limp to the truck. I'm one of the lucky ones in America that has a wife who get's her insurance through work. I have the means and the money to get this done and be back on my feet. I feel sorry for the millions out there that have no insurance and can't afford to do anything about it. That person would just suffer. He's the one to feel sorry for and pray for.
I did make a typo on the original post. Andrew is who made the bait for me , not drew. I bought them off him back when he offered  guys on the forum his custom baits.
Oh the person that took this picture was my wife. I take really good care of her. If there ever was one lesson I learned in life it is " You can love a dog but they can't get you insurance "

NOPE.  We have hardwoods too, may have to drive to get to them.  Besides, best thing I think we truly miss down here is winterizing our boats--don't have to.  :)  Fish on, nice fish.

...I'm one of the lucky ones in America that has a wife who get's her insurance through work...

Tell me about it.  I met TPO several months before her graduation from college where she got a nursing degree.  We got married a few months after she got a nursing job at Kaiser, which paid 100% of her and her family's health care.  She retired last year after 44 years with Kaiser, during which time we never paid a nickel for health insurance.

Praying for a fast recovery Lamar, think spring! You'll be back fishing.

Going into surgery real fit and healthy is a huge factor in how long it takes to recover completely. Attitude is an factor. Get it done Lamar, then get back to living. You've got a prayer from me as well.
