Title: Mo-Herring
Post by: Partycrasher on 12/10/15 11:47 UTC
This combination has been doing well for me.  3" Mo-Magic, 1/4 ounce Herring head, #1 Eagle Claw 635, #3 willow.  The little bit of vibration from the blade makes that tail quiver so perfectly!

I've been wondering, if we put a ridge on the outside of the tail, would that give the bait more motion? And could a guy cut a ridge with a dremel without messing up the mold? Been looking at all types of molds which have a flat piece of plastic for ma tail wondering that, kinda scared to put a dremel to the mold though.

I like that I'm going to have to get a 2.5" Mo to go with the crappie size herring head when it comes out.

Boy; that is a very good fit of body length to hook size.  Good looking combo, and it looks like a lot of tail acton would be imparted.

Gary I would not to that the tail has so much motion as it is and a ridge I believe would give it less. If more movement is needed I would use a curly tail. I think There is a big difference in motion and movement. The Mo Magic has moition for days even at rest however you don't have a ton of movement such as a curly tail. That's why the Mo is so deadly on a resting lure because the tail is in constant motion. Not sure if that makes sense but....

Yes, I see your point. Would also mean the larger sizes on a jig would be a good cold water bait!

I'm casting it out, letting it get to the bottom, and then just reeling it slowly.... painfully slow... but that seems to be what they want.  It has enough subtle action on its own.

This is the goby version I made up.  The Browns here are either eating baitfish like alewives or smelt, or gobies.

Nice powder paint job! Is that a home made mixture?

I like how you put red flake on the blade. How did you do that ?

That's watermelon/red flake powder paint.  I buy it that way from Reinke Bros.  I didn't think it was a special blend.

The blade is powder painted as well.  Same paint.

The hook on this one is the Eagle Claw 575H.  Hard to find the "H" version.  Barlow's is the only place that I know of.  Its a strong hook for the price.

The bigger heads with a smoking shad on them look awesome in the water.  I haven't caught anything on them yet because the Brown bite has been smaller baits.  But, its going to be a good bass and pike bait for sure.  I'll post a picture this weekend.

I use clear finger nail polish with glitter, heck you can buy any color you can think of for 3 bucks

How are you folks keeping the eyes on? Are you sealing them somehow?

For mine I stick them on and then coat over top with clear fingernail polish.

Most of us dip the head in hot clear plastic.

I seal them with a coat of seal-coat.

Super glue and lots of times the eye becomes cloudy because I guess the glue soaks through but take a Q tip and alcahol rub they eye and it cleans it perfect

Super glue or nail polish clear. Works well for me
