So i ordered this spin jig mold http://store.do-itmolds.com/Spin-Jig-Mold_c_157.html
Problem with powder painting is I'm getting powder paint in the swivel and it ends up getting seized up sometimes.
what can i use to protect the swivel???
Maybe should I try something different like?:
1. a Powder Paint spray gun????
2. Airbrush with liquid paint??

Wrap the swivel with some aluminum foil and paint away.

:o WOW.... simple.... haha cant believe i didn't think of that ::)
Next question,
which is best
fluid bed
or dipping it in the container the powder comes in

Yep I second on wrapping

Welcome to the forum CC! I usually dip directly into the jar. Just make sure to stir the paint up before each jig to make sure it's fluffed. I use a piece of wire to stir up the paint.

Either or. I think its what you get used to using that'll serve you the best. If you're doing only enough heads for yourself and a couple buddies the jar will probably suffice.

I would go with a fluid bed. If you buy them through TJ's they're not that bad. Not sure why other places charge so much. I have a cup for each color I use. Check out their jig holders and powder sprayers too. http://www.tjstackle.com

I bought a fluid bed on ebay, it works good just bought a larger diameter than I needed (always go big I say) and now a 2oz jar I can barely get my jig dipped all the way ... it also seems I loose a lot of power as it just starts to float out into the air. .. maybe I need to turn the air supply down a bit

I have the unit from TJ'so and it works really well. Great instructional videos too!
The cure racks are a MUST have! Worth every penny.
The advantage of using a fluid bed is that the powder pain't will go on much thinner ...so you don't get drips when you cure the paint in a toaster oven. Too much paint is probably the beginners biggest error.
Go get a cheap toaster oven at Walmart. .curing them makes the paint 100x tougher. Cure time info on the TJS site.
Watch their video on how to tap paint off a brush for the back of a jig (or throat)...it takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it your jigs can look A+.

Thanks!

Find some tubing that just fits over the swivel - cut to working length - seal one end - place over swivel - dip & remove tube - heat set powder - repeat as needed.

I build my own fluid bed bases and they are running me less than $10 not counting the control valve.
I'm out of Clippard MNV-4K and Fabco NV-55 valves so my next few will be built with the Ideal valves I have laying around. I'd guess the price on them now is well over $70 each but I have no other use for them.

Tin foil for me - If I'm doing a lot of the same color base coat I'll use my small fluid bed then tap the second color with a brush
