Title: powder coating tungsten ice jigs.
Post by: Mike J on 01/25/16 18:27 UTC
Not to long ago there was a question posted about powder coating tungsten ice jigs.  I decided to take this on myself as I saw it as both money saving and another way to fish with my own creation.  I managed to get some blank 4mm tungsten jigs that looked to be copper plated.  These jigs were made by soldering a hook into a groove in the tungsten blank (already done when I got them I did not have to put hooks in them).  I used a heat gun to heat them and quickly learned how hot you shouldn't get them.  All in all it worked out great as long as I only heated them enough to melt and smooth out the paint.  I did not try baking them because I wanted to put 3D eyes on and to keep them in place and to have a nice clean look I put 3 coats of seal-coat on them.

Nice I knew that tungsten could be powder painted.
When I'm home from work next hitch I might finally get around to my tungsten project.
I've got some scud bodies I'm going to solder hooks into and powder paint for ice fishing.
BTW where did your blanks come from if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks guys Im a fan of big eyes on small baits. I got these blanks from a Chinese company that was a real pain in the but to deal with so I won't recommend them. I'm lucky I even got them had to get paypal involved.  I plan to buy more from a fairly local guy that already has them imported.
