Title: Powder paint and glitter
Post by: chubs on 05/10/16 07:47 UTC
I started to play with adding glitter to the candy powder paint. I like the way the glitter and the paint look together but the only problem is that with certain colors with the glitter the colors get to dark. Is there a way to lighten up the color with the glitter? I was thinking about adding a touch of clear powder paint but I don't know if that would work. The color I am working with right now is the candy purple and blue glitter.
Thanks

Not much help for the purple/blue combo. Its a catchy color meaning the blue glitter attracts the light and your eye so the purple appears darker than it is. Its an optical illusion. The purple isn't any darker.

the jig looks real dark I may have to much blue glitter in it. I put about a teaspoon of candy purple to 1/8 tsp blue glitter in a small container to start playing with the color and glitter combinations. I would post a picture but I don't know how this site really makes it more difficult then needed. Should be able to just copy and then paste.

Your picture needs to be on a host server. Once in that format you can  copy paste.

first I'd add some clear but do it a bit at a time, you're already using a candy powder and adding too much could kill the candy color.  You say blue glitter but they'res a few blue glitters, and who's candy purple??  If it's a dark blue glitter that would darken the final color - Look at an aqua or teal blue glitter, they're lighter.  Do a few at a time till you get what you want.  If you add too much glitter you'll know as it will make the paint job lumpy.

buddy of mine over on jigcraft made this mix.

BB Green Glitz
2 - Baby Bass Green (ProTech)
1 - Pearl (ProTech)
10 - Clear (Orbit)
5 - Clear/Gold Holo. Glitter (ProTech)
5 - Clear/Chart. Glitter (ProTech)
4 - Green Craft Glitter (Horizon Basic Elements XtraFine)

When I mixed mine because I didn't have any of the pre-mixed stuff I don't know how much glitter is in 1 1/4 teaspoons of it. Trying to figure it out this is what I came up with.   His basic measurement per each part was 1/4th teaspoon.

½ teaspoon Baby Bass
¼ teaspoon Pearl
2 ½ teaspoon Clear
1 ¼ teaspoon Gold Holographic glitter (? 3/4 teaspoon of clear and 3/4 teaspoon of glitter)
1 ¼ teaspoon chart glitter (? 3/4 teaspoon of clear and 3/4 teaspoon of glitter)
1 teaspoon green craft glitter

That's some really nice work Fatman. I've tried adding some glitter to powder and wasn't too successful. I think I did it wrong in that I tried it in my fluid bed. I believe the glitter went straight to the bottom and stayed there.

Thanks AP!!  It took a lot of time and a LOT of help from many people on different boards to teach me all this, and I'm happy to pass it on.

One thing I forgot to mention - when working on mix's WRITE EACH STEP DOWN, how much of whatever you used!!!!!!!!  I have a really cool mix and I'm almost out and I don't know how to make any more!!!!
