Title: BONE Colorant...!...?
Post by: BareKnuckleJigs on 12/08/11 09:20 UTC
Does anyone know how to combine Colorants to make "Bone"?  Or does anyone know where to get Bone Colorant?  Or, Jason, do You see Bone on Your List, anytime soon?

I'm wanting to utilize this Fine Color in several "imitations", mostly Saltwater, one major color being a Light Saltwater Shrimp.  I tried last night to get a "Tan" or "Bone", but it didn't happen (I DID make a mild Shrimp color, tho! ...pouring right now!).

Fire away, CCM Bro's!

Looks like you could make that top color many ways. I can try things tonight if interested as I am guessing I will start with pearlescent and add ???.... Looks almost orange based to me so maybe in 8oz's 1 drop pumpkin orange and then pearlescent. Maybe even 1 drop oxblood and then pearlescent.... I'll play around tonight and then let ya'll know.....

Thank You, GB!

I've been searchin' HARD for this, as a liquid or powder...no go.  I DID find a list on 1 search a "Pearl Peach" which I may take into consideration...

***Pearl Peach...according to this list:
8 oz.s Plastic
8 drops Bubble Gum
4 drops Yellow
8 drops Minnow Silver

I don't have ONE of those colors other than CCM Pearl Silver, which I don't know if it's the same, or even close enough.
And yes, Sir...I didn't specify, but Bone is the Top Color on those 2 baits.

I have all those colors. I also have some orange pearl powder. Bet that will do something cool in pearlescent.....

Got something for you guys you will like. The bubblegum+ yellow = dreamsicle color.. Not what you want to match the photo. Heat affects bubblegum a lot alos so I think it is best left out.

Will have pics and recipes in am. Might run one more batch just for kicks and do it Ghost style!!!!  ;D

Well... Here goes... I never went back to look at the photo on this thread and relied on my "photographic" memory... LOL!!!! I can see I would have made some slight changes I would have made. Definitely would have poured the bellies and then shot the bait to get more of the top color vs the 50/50 laminate.

Also, I don't have the holo string so I used holo flake in the belly.

Bone #1

Recipe: Top:  4oz  5 drops pearlescent (M-F), 1 drop orange pumpkin (M-F), smidge of orange hi-lite powder (M-F)
Bottom:  4oz  2 drops silver pearl (M-F) pinch of medium silver holo flake, pinch of small silver holo flake.

Peach Shad (or Bone #2.. LOL!!)

Recipe:  Top:  4oz  5 drops pearlescent (M-F), 2 drops orange pumpkin (M-F), smidge of orange hi-lite powder (M-F)
Bottom:  4oz  4 drops silver pearl (M-F) pinch of medium silver holo flake, pinch of small silver holo flake.

Swapped out pics just now!!! Little better!!!!!Also, these are tranasluscent baits. If you want them to be more opaque, add a little salt or doulble your ingredients.

I started to do something to these, like add or change, but I'll be honest, I just can't see to many ways to make these colors better. Maybe adding some copper flake in the top, but just half a smidge and medium size. I will be adding on the Bone color to one I sell as I really like the wat it came out!

If interested, drop me a note with your address and I'll send you a couple out to see first hand and in the water.

MAN You're good at what You do, Mr. Jim!!!

They BOTH are killer, but I like "Bone #1", if I had to choose one.  Those baits are Top Shelf, GhostBaits.  Are You holding Class any time soon?!   :D

That Bone #1...my 1st plan, is to thin it down a little to use as a more Tan/Bone colored Shrimp imitation, especially good during warmer months, around sandy/beach/surf areas, chasing Specks and Flounder.  Alot of those Shrimp are tan colored, and when the water's clear on those areas, "matching the hatch" will excel.  That "Ghost Bone Shrimp" will be a fine addition to any Saltwater Fisherman's Tackle Box, right along with the Brown/Pink Saltwater Shrimp...just my thoughts.

FINE Color!!!  FINE Job, Sir!!!
