Title: Christmas Time- I love my wife!
Post by: superharmonix on 12/16/11 17:38 UTC
I'll start this with the end result- I am tempted to change my color names for the rest of December to cookie and candy names....

A week ago I was recovering from a nasty flu/pneumonia type thing and my wife says, "Hey- we should go through the cookbooks and pick out 12 different cookie types to make and deliver to our friends!" (she was thinking 12 disciples - 12 cookies)  Of course, in my Theraflu/NyQuil fog, I said, "sounds great".

So fast forward a week or so and here we've been making all these cookies...OH!  I mean getting instruction from my wife on measuring, the finer aspects of this like the difference of "folding" versus nitro speed on the mixer, etc.) ya know- the finer points I guess (and she really did let me use the mixer- I told her it was the closest thing to a power tool in the kitchen, and dang that thing is powerful- I never paid attention!) :D..keep in mind I LOVE cooking and especially barbequeing, but when the Lord handed out the baking gene, I was not present.  I must have been gone fishing.  Anyway, this "let's make some cookies for our friends" has evolved into 3 days of baking school for me, and we are now going out in the community next week and handing them out to anyone we drive past and seems like they could use a hug and some Christmas cheer.  It will be interesting and I am sure rewarding, and I can not wait to see how it goes!

So here's my thing- As we have made all kinds of things with so many colors and flavors, like chocolate, peppermint, butterscotch, almond, toffee, you name it, I of course have had to sample each, you know, to make aure they are safe for folks to eat of course  :D and I started thinking how true it is the old adage about the fastest way to a man's heart being through his stomach. (and as I type this I can smell a house with lots of baking love wafting through the air)  So I thought, why not combine the goodness of these flavors and colors with our other passion- FISHING!
So sorry for the long story, but so far some of the colors(flavors), I am thinking:
-Butterscotch- (Microspoons' wife nailed that one already of course!)
-Peppermint- old school red and white is a staple!
-Almond Bar-(around here we attach cut sardine or even tuna to our salmon rigs and the color is actually somewhat close to these almond bar things we made yesterday)
-Marbled Brownie-(Mayfly dominant with a pearl swirl with holo flake mixed in)
-Orange/Cranberry pecan Bar- (those are one of my favorites so far) -good ole' fluorescent orange with hot pink, 50/50 laminated with copper or gold flake... (the fish will hit that just to be able to come out of the water and see the crazy guy who would throw it)

I could just keep going but I think you can see my wife has got my head really in the clouds here, and I thought hey, what's there to lose? :D:D:D
Anyone have the guts to add anything here?

Merry Christmas to my fellow fishing/tackle making friends. :) :)

:)  I am with ya!!  I even told my wife she could use one of my injectors for the icing, and she gave me that head-shaking back and forth- "Oh honey....." look. LOL!!!

I think we need a thread on just the stuff the wives deal with from us!!!  ;D

:D well, I've got to figure, since I have quietly taken her Pyrex, cookie sheets, aluminum foil, vegetable oil, a jewelry display thingy that rotates I use for hanging my dipped baits from to cure, microwaves, (and yes more than one :) ), skewers(again, for hanging baits- I drilled holes, then put them side by side in a 2x4 about 1/8 inch or so apart to hang the frogs from), griddle, and I am sure countless other things, the least I could do is offer up one of my tools for barter and trade!

Yeppa, it is so wrong Andrew!!!!!  Again, this is why I say we need a thread about what we put the silent (or sometimes unsilent hahah!) women of our lives through!    ;)

So.... I come downstairs this am and I see my new 6" Flippin' Stick Open Pour sitting on the kitchen counter full of purple icing and my wife with this look on her face......She was trying to make icing worms for my birthday cake!

And yes....she washed the mold really well before she used it....

So far...no good on the icing worms....but now she is melting some chocolate....!

I'm calling it even now!

Jason: New market for your open pours! :P
