A few weeks ago I got the powder paint gun from TJ's, but due to the move and things being in storage I just got to use it today. It will take some practice but these didn't turn out too shabby. 3D eyes and brush guards are on the way. Any advice for best glue for eyes and guards? I can't do too much of this yet as I just have a small apartment for the time being. I need to make a vacuum spray booth. Even with a box as a backdrop, micro glitter everywhere. Skirts I had laying around. Poison tail jigs came from Shawn.
This is the first attempt. Back is black w/ blue hilite; purple is a candy color blend Tom sent me awhile back. Candy pink underneath. White base coat under the candy colors.

2nd attempt. You can see the blue hilite in the black in this shot, same back as the above bait. Green is another candy color blend from Tom. Orange underneath is a candy blend I did w/ gold and purple micro glitter and a touch of gold hilite.

Nice job. I like the candy colors the best when spaying. I like spraying the Candy Yellow for the body and then the Candy Blue for the top half. It kind of blends with a greenish tint where the two meet. SJ taught me that one. Then I like Candy Orange for the chin. You can do a lot with it and it's fun to play with. You got to get over the part about wasting some powder. It's just part of the game we play. I bought a bunch of extra jars and straws from TJ's and it sure does make it easier then cleaning them out for each color. I haven't made a spinnerbait or buzz bait with a plain head in a long time. They just don't look right anymore. Have fun and show lots of pictures.

Thanks all, I got the good camera out for these shots! Doing these jigs was far easier than I though it would be. I did a couple of spinner blades too and actually found those to be a bit more difficult. I have a few tricks I've used prior to having a spray gun for getting good clean patterns on spoons and spinner blades. Once I get some time to do some blades I'll post some pics.

Yep, I've had a few candy colors for jig heads for a while and love them. Really versatile and a lot of ways to work with them. I have purple, red, and blue on the way from Do-It. I really should have ordered yellow too, but that will have to wait. I'm not too worried about wasting some powder, a little goes a long way; I've had those colors from Tom for 2 years I think. Only a tablespoon or two, but powder gives good coverage. I need a vacuum booth for the over-spray! Even with a box, there is micro-glitter everywhere! It's safe to say that the apartment is looking fabulous. I'll be less concerned once I have a new house and workshop. I'll be keeping my spraying to a minimum til that happens, I'll post pics as I'm able.

Once I have brush guards (arriving Thurs along with a bunch of other supplies; thanks for the quick turnaround as always!) and eyes on 'em I'll post a couple more pics. Feel free to share them as you see fit.

I'd been wanting one for about a year. It's a pretty cheap investment and totally worth it. Luckily I had a suitable air pump on hand from my aquarium hobby.

I love it Tom. Used without a base coat on jigs for panfish, it's become my go-to. I'll have to check if you sent me the recipe for this blend. I know it's purple with blue glitter, don't remember if there's anything else in it.

Nothing else. Get the micro glitter shown in the powder and liquid paint section of the catalog. Comes in a 1 ounce jar. Do not sneeze of cough while handling the glitter.

Very nice work spraying the powder!!!! The best advice I could give somebody is to practice with it and have fun, try using different distances to change the shade of color. I'll give you a good tip on making a 2 color scheme with just 1 candy color that would be hard to do without the spray gun. Take candy blue or green or even red, heat up your lure and hold the bait about a 12" to 14" away from the gun and just give quick pulses on the trigger or button, this will put a light candy coat on the side or your lure which makes the color appear light. Then on the top of your lure you can get the gun about 4" to 6" away and give it a full spray, what you will get is a dark candy color that will appear to fade down and into a lighter color. This works well for spinnerbait and swim jig patterns, the poison tail is perfect for that!! Anyway, it looks like you are doing well with it, good luck and should you ever need any help I'd be more than happy to oblige, again, nice work on those jigs!!!

I managed to achieve a similar effect by not putting a base coat on the back of the jig so the back turns out much darker. So you go from a dark metallic to a lighter and stronger color with a white base coat under it. I did this with a red one that I haven't taken a pic of yet because I haven't made the skirt! Combining those two steps would probably make a pretty super fade.
