Title: Problems with yellow/gold/tan
Post by: MonteSS on 01/09/12 00:01 UTC
Trying to get a nice light yellow-gold color similar to a yellow perch.

Also a yellow-tan like this rock bass.

Only yellow I have is florescent yellow and anything I add to it turns to the green side. Any ideas as to what to get and mix?

Thanks....Bill

Here is a start: http://www.lurecraft.com/catalog.cfm/plastic-coloring/powder-coloring/pearl/4-oz:555

(modification)  You will have to change it to yellow on the color selection.

I have a transparent yellow that is not fluorescent. Its an MF product. I assume that you are trying to get that yellow directly under the gill cover...should be able to capture that doing a smaller batch and keeping track of what you use to get it but I think starting with the trans yellow and maybe add a drop of solid school bus yellow along the way could get you there. I'd stay away from pearls and hi lites until the color got adjusted the way you want it.

We have the MF Yellow, Earthworm and Bubble Gum - I'll add them to the site now and get the picture added later.  We have a couple others as well but they aren't ready.

LC has a Lemon Yellow that might get you close for the perch.  Maybe some gold glitter?

Let us know what you come-up with.  I like that perch color.

Here are the colors I use for my perch right now. Might help you get closer. These get bit good by the walleye but I am still looking for that yellow. Just got some golden yellow in from LC. It might be good as a base.

Top: 4oz plastic  16 watermelon (M-F), 2 peanut butter (LC), pinch nutmeg and black
Bottom: 4oz plastic  5 pearlescent, 1 white, 1 oxblood, 2 watermelon (M-F), smidge green hilite smidge silver holo

The Lemon yellow is a good color.  Clear as clear can be  and a good yellow yellow.  Personal opinion.

Thanks all. Ghost that looks awesome but still a little greener/darker than I want. I think as y'all said I need a regular yellow and not the florescent as the base.

This is not bad for the rock bass. Was going to call this color Rocky, but think I will call it Dessert Storm.

Great job on the rock bass.  Desert Storm is a winner.  Makes a cool craw color as well.  Thanks for sharing.

Now for the perch.....

Hi Bill,

I wanted to ask for that recipe, but didn't want to put you on the spot.  Thank you for sharing it - great color.  I think it will work really well here.  Do you care if I try and replicate it with our colorant and put it in the Gallery Cookbook?  I will show both versions so it can be made with either set of colorants.

Thanks again for sharing!

No doubt I am "stealing" this one. I am thinking about some orange hi-lite powder and orange flake in another version and removing the gold hilite and gold flake.

Killer color for sure Bill! Thanks for "hooking" us up!!!!

Really nice color.   Looks like pea gravel in a small creek bed.  It's amazing how many really good colors the forum folks create ( and share ).

A friend asked me to come up with a pair of colors for the Minnesota Viking and Green Bay Packers football teams and this is the gold that I managed. I used the same in both baits.

I did this using 4 oz of the CCM plastic, 8 drops of stabilizer, 15 drops of LC yellow transparent, 1/8 tsp of gold hi lite powder, and 1/8 tsp chartreuse glitter. Pretty easy and it looks like it might be close to your perch belly.

That yellow looks like a good starting point. Cool baits.

Thanks...Bill

I just got some CCM amber and it is very yellow/orange.

The LC amber is a light brown. You may try replacing the LC amber with a light rootbeer.
