Title: Birch bug
Post by: chubs on 04/05/17 17:19 UTC
I just received my sample bait of the 3.75 birch bug and i like the action of it a lot but i did notice that the bait won't take to much abuse. I was wondering if anyone had both sizes of the birch bug and if you do is the center core thicker on the 4.25 where the bait will last longer? I seen there is a bucky bug which is the same bait as the birch bug but a solid bait. Since the bucky bug is solid does it loose some of its action? I will be using them on a jig and texas rigged I thought about using them as a punch bait from time to time.

Thanks

I love the birch bug. I wish the 3.75 came in a multi cavity mold. If you get three bass on one bait you are doing good. I guess the way I look at it is they got to bite it first in order to catch them. That bug has a different look and they do bite it. I just make a lot of them and save the old ones to remelt latter.

I have both sizes and I don't think that it is anymore, or less, durable than any other bait.

I use the bait extensively on the football Swing Jig and it is very effective crawled along the bottom with the occasional small hop.

I like the action of the bait a lot. I don't expect to catch a lot of fish on one bait but it nice when you can get more then one fish per bait. Do you guys have or tried the bucky bug?

Have you tried making them with the HD additive? It makes baits considerably more durable!

I mold all of my bass baits in Essential Plastic which is a lot "tougher" than other plastics.

I don't worry about one fish to a bait. I keep a can in the boat, throw my torn up baits in that and remelt them!

I pour my stick baits with the essential series. Texas rigged they last longer but wacky rigged it only last for one or two fish.

Use an O ring and put your hook through the O ring and not the worm. It will last all day long

I'm usually good for 3-4 fish on a wacky rig.  I don't use the O-ring anymore...just hook it through the middle of the bait.

I've caught so many fish using an O ring I don't think they care. I use a 0/2 circle hook with a weed guard. I never set the hook just pull back and let them set it. Very rare is it deep. Almost always right on the edge of the lips. Even on the Lamar's Dirty Little Secret color you can see the O ring plan as day and they eat it up. I've always said if the fish are feeding and you put that bait in front of it in a fashion they want it then they'll eat it. I think to many times we over think the bait and the color and forget what fashion the fish want it in. Also remember I'm a bass fisherman this may not be true for crappie. Those are for sissies.  :P

Denny I see you have the birch bug on your website. How does it hold up and compare to the mad dad 3xl?

Thanks for the help I received my sample baits it the mail and tested them out. I like the action of the birch bug over the mad dad 3xl. I also got samples of the Bucky bug and the action seemed the same as the birch bug. Now I just need to make a decision witch style to go with
