Title: Some box fodder....Diner Shiner style
Post by: ctom on 12/27/17 08:22 UTC
I'm always using a 1/32 head for crappies it seems and sometimes I need to up uphill from that weight. Sometimes down as low as 1/64 to 1/80, but very seldom this light. But I do like to carry heads in other weights just in case. The Diner Shiner is getting this niche filled nicely. I hit the bench yesterday pretty early to get the casting done, then spent the rest of the day playing with the goodies I made. Painting was an afternoon affair, the eyes went on at dinner time and the seal coat went on during a movies last night. They were all dried up hard and pretty this morning to pose for a picture.

These are the two smallest sizes the mold makes...1/16 and 1/8 ounce. All got the wires. The purple and pink jigs got a little pop of bright orange at the throat of each jig to dress them up.

These are sprayed using a an airbrush. I used Createx pearlized colors for the purple and chartreuse. The orange and pink are fluorescent colors and the black is black opaque. All are applied over clean, bare lead. While the fluorescent colors are opaque in nature they do come out as almost transparent when applied thin enough. The eyes are Do-It stock 3d eyes in 2.5 and 2mm. The Cs Coatings Seal Coat finished things up and was allowed to dry in a very warm laundry room. The colors don't even begin to pop until this clear coat is applied and dries, then its like everything is electric. Sweep this pile in front of the window with the morning sun lighting things up and every color looks like its plated....absolutely uncanny colors.

Now to go spray some ballheads.

Tom is that powder paint your air brushing with or liquid paint?

He mentioned Createx, so that would be liquid airbrush colorant.

Createx is a water based airbrush paint that comes in 3 types

Createx airbrush color : Orginally formatted for t-shirts but works on hard baits but scratches easily if you are using templates that contact the bait. The largest number of different colors.

Createx Wicked: A better formulation for use on hard baits. Does not dry tip as easily so that is a good improvement!

Createx Auto Air: The white sealer is a very good base coat and very scratch resistant. They have come out with a lot of colors lately. It is actually an automotive paint so it works very well on hard baits. There is a little more learning curve with this paint and using reducers but when you get the hang of it you get super results! I'm switching to it 100% when possible.

Airbrushing lead lures and then sealing with CS Coatings is the way to go!

Nice looking stuff Tom. I'm pretty fond of that chartreuse orange color in the top left corner

Tom, all I can say is fantastic.
I joined this forum just 1 day shy of a year ago and it still amazes me the willingness of forum members to help the hobby!
I sometimes think how cool it would be to have Tom and some of the other forum members as neighbors, or live in the same town! Wouldn't ever get anything done.
The time it takes some forum members to photograph and then explain what molds, colors and all else blows me away.
Every time someone posts a cool picture it gets printed and put in a binder "just" in case something happens to this forum.
A good example would be of all the info that disappeared over the photo bucket issue.
Once again thanks for all the help over the last year!
