Title: Buzzbait Mold for Horny Toad
Post by: bassin140 on 08/23/18 11:24 UTC
Hello everyone

New to forum...... long  time custom bait addict. The buzzbait with a horny toad on back in place of the skirt has been very popular. When they rig this they usually put the toad over the lead part of the buzzbait head. I didn't know if anyone on here has done this with one of do-it buzzbait molds. If so which one works better for that specific scenario? Bullet buzzbait mold or keel buzzbait mold?

Thanks

Welcome ! Not sure what you're asking for but I use this https://store.do-itmolds.com/Frog-Toad-Molds_c_289.html
For frogs. I guess you could use it with a buzz bait too but I use it with a weighted hook and it works fine.

I use the Dirty Jigs Scott Canterbury Pro Buzz with the frogs Lamar pointed to along with a Del-Mart mold that is very similar to the zoom horny toads.  I do not make my own buzzbaits but the Dirty Jigs one I mentioned does have the frog cover the weight.  However Big Bites makes a buzzfrog that is very similar to the Do-it Buzz-Keel Buzzbait mold called the Big Bite Baits Tour Toad.  I also see that War Eagle makes a buzzfrog that is very similar to Do-it Buzz-Spin called the War Eagle Buzz Toad. Both of those (check them out at tacklewarehouse.com) do not have the frog cover the weight and I'm sure they would work good too.  The Do -it Buzz-Keel may be able to skip better under docks if that's a technique you use or ride a little higher faster but that's just a guess based on the shape of the weight.

You'll want the keel buzzbait mold. The reason is it has a ring and barb collar which will hold the frog on better.
