A buddy and I hit the Mississippi backwaters in a couple areas and did quite well on crappies [to 12 1/2"] in the first location and smoked some sumo [to 10 1/2"] sunfish in the other spot. For a change there was little wind. The crappies were all over the 1.5" Thump-it in purple/chartreuse tail and those sunfish were inhaling the larger of the Wax Wigglers, again purple/chartreuse tail. I had a northern of about 32" trying to take the sunnies as I was reeling them in and actually grabbed on long enough for a short tussle with him. I won.
Beautiful fall day what with the colors changing and the fish biting and no wind for a change.

Heck yeah that sounds like a good day out and some nice fish. I went a few times and had very little luck I'm not sure what is going on.

Up here close to fishing heaven we're right into the early fall transition for the panfish. 2 more weeks and it'll be wild.
