They can be great; They can be awfull. I was in two different clubs and fished a regional trail way back in the 1970's & 1980's. They can be helpful on teaching you how to fish in adverse conditions, new patterns / techniques, etc. If you are a competitive person, it can be a good idea if you joint a club that is suited to what you want / need . If you are not particularly competitive, I would suggest you find a couple of decent bass club guys that you could fish with on their non tourney days. Tournament fishing; even on a club scale, has it's "tough side" if you are committed to it. -- You don't pick the weather on tournament days.
