This ain't hard to take.....
« on: 11/19/18 15:37 UTC »
So I've been cabitzing with a guy I knew several years ago from another website forum and he asks if I paint hard baits. I told him yes, I order the lure blanks and do some air brushing. He asked about re-painting factory baits and I said yes that can be done. He asks for my mailing into and says to stay tuned....that I'll be getting some play things. The mail man dropped this box off today from my friend. He had a message for me this morning as well saying he'd like a couple or three of these lures done up in the hot pink/purple-mottled backs like I did earlier this summer and to do what I wanted to with the rest. These are supposedly used but as far as I can tell darned few have seen water There's over 50 cranks in this box. Man, I'll go broke buying paint if I do all of them. In reality there will be quite a few going into my boxes as is.

Treats like this aren't hard to take and apparently there's another box like this being put together already. I can handle little trick boxes like this.

That's a sweet deal! Gives you something to do when the snow gets deep.

I'll sort thru them in the next couple days and then put a piece of tape on the bills of those I will paint and number the bait. I'll have a corresponding number on a zip-lock with the hooks and rings in it from that lure, hopefully to keep things going smoothly.

I think I'll get the 4 ounce detail brush out and mix up some automotive flat white to spray as a base coat and to hide the existing color patterns. That'll move that part of re-painting along nicely. I can wet sand the white base and get it as slick as a baby's butt so it'll make a great undercoat for the airbrush paint.

There are 54 baits in this box. He's getting another ready....all ready. He has over 30 years at Cabelas and has done quite a bit of tournament angling. He retired from both Cabelas and tourney fishing and says he has no use whatever for all this tackle and saw that I did some painting. All he wants is a few special color patterns that I make for Lake Superior that he likes so he'll get his and it sounds like I'll be getting more for me. love it.
