" Remember the old green shakespeare underspin?"....olsarge
I at, one time, collected those Shakespeare reels, both the top side push-button and the under-spins. I still have a couple of the under spins that are in perfect working order. In fact I have one on a rod and us it when shore-casting waldos occasionally. Spooled with 6 pound line its a great tool.
When we were still doing antiques and did lots of shopping for inventory I ran into a fella going into Waverly Iowa's Goodwill Store with a box of 30 of these reels, all in beautiful shape and working fine, many in the original boxes un-used. Apparently his deceased brother had them and they were clearing the guy's house to sell. He was going to donate them because he thought there wasn't a market for old Shakespeare reels so I gave him $2.00 each for them. He left smiling and I came home with a treasure trove. Most of those reels garnered between $25.00 and $35.00 each with those under-spins fetching the most at $45.00 each. Great reels for their time in history.
