Every day between 4:30 and 5 o'clock in the afternoon this pair of mallards comes strolling into the yard and makes themselves right at home at the base of a bird feeder pole. They seem to like the seed the sparrows throw off the feeder bowl and Carole certainly has no objections to the extra help keeping the seed in check.

They're very friendly and basically pay us no mind at all. On Thursday I had the grill fired up when the showed and they just went about doing what the do here. Today they walked right thru the garden five feet away from us sitting in lawn chairs enjoying the sun and a beer. They went right to chowing and never paid me any mind while I took our brats off the grill, nor when I walked up to them for the picture. Its fun having wildlife right in your yard especially when its not a pain in the behind.

Its 5:30 right now and they're still sitting in the flowers. By 6 they'll have left but they'll be back tomorrow.

I used to have a pair of mallards that would use my swimming pool and loaf in my backyard at my old place (French Island); I even got a picture of them standing on my grill one time.  The first year we were at our new place, we had a mamma wood duck successfully bring 7 little fuzzballs through the yard, but I never knew she was on the property until their parade to the river.
